Default AK Newbie question

Last week I bought my first AK. It is a WASR-10 with a folding stock and is a lot of fun to shoot.

My question is this: Should the bolt lock back after the last round is fired? If it is supposed to, my gun is broken.

Thanks. I'm used to semi-auto handguns and M16's that do lock back.

How do you know when you're out of ammo?

I guess I will either have to count rounds or listen for the "click." I think I can count to 30. If I have problems with that, I will buy some 10 or 20 round mags.

You can get the BHO if you modify your mags or buy BHO mags.

The says you know what to do but for benefit of the OP, treat a "click" as a malfunction and in the case of an AK, perform a magazine exchange.

Since AK's rarely malfunction, a "click" is most likely a depleted magazine. If it is in fact a failure to fire, cycling the bolt carrier upon exchanging magazines will usually extract the "bad cartridge" and chamber a round from the new magazine.

I bought a Yugo AK underfolder, and only use Yugo mags. I really like the BHO feature using these mags. My other semi auto rifles have that feature and that's what I wanted in an AK.

Look around, there are lots of different ways to have to do a bolt hold open, to make your mags like the yugo ones. Havent done it myself yet, I just figure when it stops going bang, and its been about 30 rounds, it's time to change mags.

We don't need no stinking bolt hold open.......we just need to practice.
