Default AR15 Mags

Let's start another AR thread!

Has anyone here used or had a hard time with Brownell's mags?

I purchased 5 twenty round and 5 thirty round mags. ALL OF THEM seem to have problems. The most common problem is that the bolt will close on an empty chamber. The mag fails to push the next round up far enough for feeding. I'm also having problems with the bolt not locking to the rear on the last shot.

I have these problems with my Colt 6920, Colt A2 HBAR and Franken-gun M4. All three weapons work fine with Colt factory mags. I have tried at least 3 brands of ammo with the same results.

Brownells claims to have a return policy on these mags....but I didnt get ONE good one out of ten. I had higher hopes!

Anyone else?

Well, you know my take on this topic...contact Brownells and have them provide you with a return number. I have a few of these mags and I haven't had any issues with them.

My current AR15 mags include
D&H mags
CProducts
Colt
Brownells
PMAG

I've got a half a dozen of each from Brownells and have had no problems. Have you taken them apart to see if there is anything obvious that might be causing them to hang up? My experience with Brownells (have ben dealing with them for over 15 yrs now) is that if something is wrong, they will make it right. Give them a call.

Your getting bolt override and it can happen with any mag. It is surprising that none of the mags would work though.

I suggest that you give the new Magpul PMAG a try. They are my favorite.

No I havent taken any of them apart.

I was going through them to decide which ones needed to go back and which ones were good...I ended up throwing them all in the junk pile.

I have 15-20 Colt mags so I'm in no hurry for replacements.

I bought these mags at dealer price, and only because of the great things I have heard about them. Maybe I just got a bad batch.

I have never had a problem with Brownells themselves, and dont see any problems with them taking them back. Brownells is a great company to deal with.

Magpul P Mags are in the near future.

I have a stack of old-school US Thermolds, myself. Do I trade up, or is it a lateral sort of thing? Just curious.

If I ordered one or two mags, I would bother to take them apart to check them out. Not ten problem mags though. Get in contact with Brownell's to let them know you are unhappy with the products you bought and are returning them.

All AR mags are not created equal. PMags are what you want.

As much as I like my PMAGS...they also had some issues early on, so lets not get carried away and say they are the best thing since sliced bread. PMAGS are pretty close though. LOL

When you design a new product you try and test it out as much as possible. Let's face it, there are a lot of AR's out there made by a lot of companies. Some follow the TDP and some do not.

So what Magpul does is create a small sampling of their new product and release it to the public. This is how they do their final T&E. Once the public finds flaws and or issues with the product, Magpul makes a revision and fixes all the complaints. This why you saw a VERY limited run of black PMAG's come out and then after about a month, a new generation was released. This is good business practice and I wish more companies did things in this manner.

So the very small issues you saw with the GEN I PMAGS was all part of the plan. I for one sold over 400 GEN I PMAGS had only two mags returned. Not bad.

This is why they are the best mag on the market to date and will continue to be the best mag on the market as Magpul will continue to refine their products.
