Default Scope Rings for AR Flat top

I will soon purchase a Stag 2T and I also intend to buy a Burris XTS-135 red dot scope for it. I have the option of purchasing rings in the following heights: Low (.25"), Medium (.5"), High (.75"), and Extra High (1").

My intention is to mount the scope so that the Red Dot reticle is just above my front post. Any recommendations on which height ring would be the best to purchase for this purpose?

Are you going to be using the Burris Xtreme rings? I have the extreme rings on two of my rifles and I am using the medium rings. I would recommend the medium or high rings because you won't need the extra high rings to co-witness the A2 front sight.

While the Xtreme rings will work on the speed dot, I would personally recommend the ARMS mount or the Larue mount. Both are quick release mounts and the Cantilever style mounts will give you enough space to add a magnifier down the road. The Cantilever will also give you enough room to add a rear BUIS. I am using the ARMS mount with high spacer on my Tripower.

Two of the best mounts for an Aimpoint (or a clone) is the ARMS #22M68 with either the full spacer or the cantilever spacer. Both will give you what is called an absolut co-witness. This means that your dot will appear right on top of your front sight post.

The other manufacturer (LaRue Tactical) makes about the best mounts on the planet IMHO. They have two mounts that will lift your Burris up high enough to co-witness. These mounts feature adjustable throw levers, spare battery storage and are built like a tank.
While the ARMS mounts will put your irons in the middle of your FOV, the LT mounts will put your irons in the lower 1/3 of your optics window. This is generally the preferred position.

I stock both mounts so let me know if I can answer any other questions.
