Default Hi-point carbine

Went looking at the local sporting goods store this evening and picked up a Hi-point in 40cal for the first time. To be honest I kinda liked it, it was light, easely manuverable and felt good in the hands. My questionis for you owners out there. Between the 40cal and the 9mm which do you perfer, and which one is cheeper to shoot, any one have a major problem, or any general information at all would be helpful. Thanks in advanced.

Anything with Hi Point stamped on it will be Fugly. ATI makes a stock for the carbines that makes it look like the Beretta Storm.
http://www.atigunstocks.com/product-hipoint.html

As ugly as the Hi Points are...the owners seem to like them a lot. Hi Points are like fat chicks...they can be a lot of fun to play with, but many prefer to play with them behind closed doors. LOL I apologize in advance for the comments that may get me into trouble.

Seriously, Hi Point carbines are reliable and their price point will attract plenty of buyers. The one thing I dislike about Hi Point is they use a proprietary magazine and the capacity is limited to 10 rounds.

The 9mm version will always be cheaper to shoot compared to 40 S&W. Most of the time, the larger caliber will tend to cost more for ammo.

First time I handled a Hi-Point Carbine I pinched my hand in the bolt "hold" notch.

#@^%$#^ !!!!!!!!

Then I shot it. Shot decent, no malfs.

Wish there were higher capacity mags.

For a fun gun, they seem ok to me.

I shot the 9mm, and it would be the cheapest to shoot.

At one of the Group Shoots, EmptyMag let me play with his 9mm carbine. (That didn't really sound good but Oh well.) That thing felt really good when you throw it up to shoot. 9mm will be cheaper to shoot than .40.

LOL!
GRoPA "Plays with my short-barreled rifle"!

I've never fired the .40 but the 9mm is fun and affordable to shoot.
Like Aubie said, the 10 rd. mag is your only option and I can't get the 10th rd. in mine if I hit it with a hammer! I considered the ATI stock, but decided to put my money to better use, as the factory stock is incredibly comfortable and will handle better (IMHO) than the stock with the "thumbhole". It took me many years of laughing at them at the gun shows, before I said, "$139? what the heck!"

It's funny how many people smile after shooting one. It's an ugly, crude, weapon, that was dead-on accurate right out of the box. It's a blast to shoot and a total PITA to tear down to clean. I have a love/hate relationship with mine.

No real problems to report other than the difficulty stripping it and the limited mag capacity. For a budget carbine, you can't beat it.

ford,
id say to go for it. many many people will back you in saying its an awesome gun for the money. i have (and would suggest) getting a 9mm. thats what i have but i, unlike em, went with the ati stock which imo is more solid. like em, i agree that they are a bitch to clean but they shoot super accurate and can cycle round after round w/o issue. several weeks ago, i put like 400+ rds through mine and didnt have 1 fte, ftf or any issue at all. hipoints take a lot of shit for their price but id have to say that its worth the $$. you can usually pick them up at duhams on sale - i got mine there for like 149.99 but that was a long while ago. still, go buy one... do it... by 2... now! go! hurry! (ha ha, isnt peer pressure a bitch?! jl). seriously. its a sweet rifle. just my $.03

I love my 9mm HP Carbine. Its a fun little gun to shoot. Its reliable; hardly any FTFs. Its pretty accurate with a decent peep sight. It shoulders nicely and comes up onto target quickly and comfortably. The trigger isn't great, but its not terrile. Not the nice smooth 2 stage of a K31 or an AR match trigger, but its OK.

Like they said above, the 10 rd mag is a detriment but the gun comes with 3 of them.

All in all, it isn't a pretty gun and definitely not a finely crafted piece of weaponry, but it works reliably, it hits what you aim it at and its loads of fun to shoot. Get one, you probably won't regret it. If on the outside chance you do, sell it and spend 3x as much on a Beretta CX4 Storm.

The 9mm would be much cheaper to shoot than the .40.

I'm about to go to bed, but I can try and go over it tomorrow if you'd like.
PM me as a reminder - my memory sucks!
It's not HARD, it's just not as easy as most.

Did you get the manual? If not, Here's the link for a pdf. http://www.hi-pointfirearms.com/manuals.asp
