Who Owns...

... a US M44 .22 rifle? I think my next trip up to Perry I might grab one if they are available. What's good and bad about them?

i own one and really like it. they are a decent .22LR rifle, but the magazines (usually not sold with the rifle if buying from the CMP) are a little hard to find and can be quite pricey. i later purchased a minty Springfield M2, and the difference is night and day! the springfield M2 is much nicer on fit and finish, super smooth action, and has a much better rear sight for target shooting. the Mossberg US M44 has a lighter weight barrel, smaller adjustable rear sight, is a little sloppy on fit and finish, the action is a little bit rougher, and of course, the plastic triggerguard issue. but, the mossy costs about 1/4th of what the springfield does. both shoot well for me, but the M2 is much nicer.
