Default Re: Colt M4 .22?

Just handled one at Big Buck Sports Shop in Wexford. The comparo to a high-end airsoft M4 is a fair one as it was nicer than some airsoft M4s I've seen, but not as nice as say a STAR, G&P, ICS, or the new TMs and CAs with recoil.

When I first heard of this I was happy, but common sense prevailed in that for the majority of us that can own hi-cap centerfire ARs - this was kind of a waste of money compared to getting a .22 kit for our ARs. Maybe for the folks stuck in the PRNJ or PRC...

And it is not $640.00 nice, at least not for me, $500.00 or less nice, yes. Although this opinion is from someone who would spend stupid money on a TM in a heartbeat.

Was this rifle designed and manufactured exclusively by Colt? Does anyone know?

No, built by Walther for Umarex (they actually do dabble in airsoft!) who in turn, licensed the Colt trades.

Don't get me wrong, these are nice, just pricey for a dedicated .22LR.

Personally as a business move I don't get it (other than due to the insane popularity for the M4) because if you already have any AR of any brand, you can add any of the under-$300.00 conversion "kits" (BCG and mags) to make your AR a .22LR.

I'd a been a happy-ass camper if Umarex had contracted for a MIL-sim .22LR that we would never otherwise be able to get: an L85, H&K G36, AUG, Stg44/MP44 -- which are all available as airsoft guns!!

Maybe the target audience is someone who never owned an AR before. I know I would love to have one but I can't afford it - and I can't afford to be dumping mags of .223 all day.

For me this .22 is the ticket.

I was in the store when you bought yours. It was on a Saturday. I bought the second one from American Sport. The one with the carry handle. The accuracy is remarkable with factory sights at the distance I was shooting, 150 feet. Only ran 200 rounds through it that day but will be putting a few hundred more through tomorrow.

No regrets buying it. The prices are all over the place with them. Saw one at the gun shop in town here and he had it out for 679 so shop around.

Dave's in Drums has them in stock. I brought one from him 2 wks ago for $519 and the mags were like 27 0r 28 dollars. The gun is made by Walther for Colt. I have put over 500 rds thru mine without any problems using federal 22 that I brought from walmart. And at 200yrds I shoot the black bullseye out of the target.

S&W has the M&P15 now available in 22lr. Haven't seen one in any dealers yet so don't know prices.

there are a lot of folks like me that want a complete rifle and i'm glad colt has brought these to market. i have no interest in purchasing seperate uppers of different calibers although it's usually cost effective compared to buying a complete rifle. there are also people that don't want to cough up a 1000+ bucks for a AR15 rifle and the 22 cal are a good alternative since they are priced several hundred bucks less.

To reiterate;

"because if you already have any AR of any brand, you can add any of the under-$300.00 conversion "kits" (BCG and mags) to make your AR a .22LR.!!"

So if you don't have an AR already; have at it. It's a nice gun and I'd buy one in a NY minute if it were closer to $3.

For my wallet; I have ARs and a conversion kit, so I'll wait on something else to spend $500+ on.
