Joe Smith,

This little bolt gun is a .308. It has a cool rear sight with a 100 yd open notch and 3 additional apertures, all the same size but positioned at different elevations in the circular rear sight.

When I sighted it in after I won an auction on Gunbroker, I started at 25 yds and shot 5 shot groups. Some groups had 4 shots touching and another off about 3/8 to 1/2 inch.

At 100, the best group was 2 3/8 " off sandbags.
This was with the dreaded "Indian OFV" ammo.

The front post adjusts up and down and also side to side.

8MM stripper clips fit the guide but .308 stripper clips are too thick.

With the crapped up eye, I was hoping to install a Aimpoint clone which I bought 2 of from a guy on Glocktalk.

An interesting read on surplusrifle.com www.surplusrifle.com » scroll down the left side to Spanish FR-8

I'll bring xtra ammo.

I had occasion to speak at length with a former Wehrmacht soldier in the 1970s who stationed on the eastern front during W.W.II, he recalled a similar impression -- very large muzzle flashes. The Germans were not eager to face those guns.

To really get inthe Mosin mood, try watching Enemy at the Gates, as the Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 virtually co-starred next to Jude law. The movie glosses over one of the preeminent events on the eastern front - routine and systematic atrocities were so commonplace it's too big a job to address even now. It would have been more aptly titled Clash of the Barbarians.

As other posters have pointed out, you should be able to get a fully outfitted M1891/30 for under $150 in your hands, with a little ammo too. Fortunately 7.62x54R is cheap and abundant, so $100 worth of 54R will last a very long time unless shot very often.

Sort of simple really. The Nazis knew damn well what the Soviets did with German POWs. Believe it or not, fighting to the death was the most appealing option when the Russians were in front and the SS were behind you.

To get out of the mood, shoot one with heavy ball while wearing just a tee shirt
