Default new trigger on an AK style rifle, ?'s

Well, I finally got some time with the AK I picked up a while ago, and had paint for the gong.

8" gong at 100 yards with irons and I have no problems just banging away at it. The Williams rear peep on this rifle really really improves it.

but the trigger sucks

i dont get any "trigger slap", not really sure about what it is, but i have seen the term thrown around with AK's.

but it is mushy and springy and does not break clean or reset crisply.

AR's have ruined me

I have seen some AK's advertised with 2-stage triggers, I have heard other people post about 2-hook triggers.

I need some info on these pa-leez

and how do you install them?

ect ect ect

The fire control group is easy to take out. Lot's of instructions online. Just remember to make sure the retaining wire is off the pins before you get frustrated and hit anything with a hammer. I got a little flustered and failed to notice my retaining wire popped back on... I didn't break anything, but I felt really stupid.

Depending on what type of rifle you have, it may already have a TAPCO fcg in it. There are nicer groups out there, Kvars and Red Star Arms are the first ones I think of. They're a little more than the Tapco ones, but may be worth your while if you're really looking to improve that trigger.

John McCaw does some of the best AK triggers I've ever shot, give him a call and see if he can't do something with it. I can let you shoot my polish underfolder he did sometime if you'd like.

I would suggest a Red Star Arms FCG for the AK.
It is an adjustable TG and frankly can't be beat.

he actually did the whole gun, not just the trigger. But knowing him it will be more than fair.

I may be at the next shoot, otherwise i'm always up for the range.

ETA: I've also got a wasr that has a G2 trigger if you want to try one of those too

Does John have a website that we can check out? Got 3 AK's that I would love to have someone trick out with really good stuff.

Shawn - this is honestly the best advice I've seen in this thread. John can take real AK FCG's and change a couple dimensions on them and then technically they're made USA at this point since he's a manufacturer (he can explain it better than I can).

I CAN say that my friend who had an AK built by John was SMOOTHER than almost any AR trigger I have ever shot, and I've been around the block on those plenty times.

I think that John has a thread about his AK trigger work in the gunsmith section.

The WASR I picked up a few months ago has the Tapco G2 trigger in it.
I'm far from an expert, but it feels pretty good to me, Several others commented on how light it was at the group shoot.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. Try before you buy is one of the best parts of the group shoots.
