Default questions about ar15 parts and build

I was thinking of going to the valley forge gun and getting an ar lower complete. I dont want to build that part but I could change out parts if needed. Is that a good option or will I be getting ripped off cause its a gun show? For the upper I was thinking of getting the ar-57 receiver. Has anyone here purchased one? If so what are your thoughts on it? I see the rounds are pricy also. I just like different things in life and the ar57 is to me a jaw dropper, but I also want something that I know when I pull the trigger it will shoot.

Negative on the 5.7 upper. The round and magazines are expensive as shit as is the upper and all that money is spent on an inferior round. I cannot comment on its reliabilty however FNH usually makes pretty decent shit. This has been discussed before and my opinion on it remains that it's something neat if you have the cash to burn, but for all practical intents and purposes a std AR is the cheaper and better option.

Copy that. Most senseable would be to build a STD 5.56. If you want to be different, then go for a 6.8SPC.

Prices on lowers at the last Valley Forge show were the highest that I've ever seen, around $200 for stripped lowers. In 2003, I paid a little under $90 for a stripped RRA lower. A year later, I picked up an assembled Stag lower for about $140.

I think EGW has Grizzly lowers for $175. Assembling them isn't that hard, really.

Copy that fellas thanks for the insight. Yes I'm the guy who goes to the range with the semi auto PPSH-41. I do like to turn heads for just that fact people can say damn that is a bad ass rifle, and whisper what a smacked ass for buying one. LOL The wifey and I are going to the valley forge show and I'll scope out the lowers and see if I can get a deal. I would not have any problems with assembling the internals of the lower. I got into alot of crap for doing full M16A2 disassemblies on a few rifles. They want only arms room qualified civi's to do that job. LOL it was easy to do. Thanks again for your input guys.

One thing that I've heard about the AR-57 that wasn't immediately apparent is that you can't use the side rails with the mag inserted. Sounds like a bad design to me, but if having a really strange AR platform floats your boat, that's probably the strangest one out there.

I got my lower at valley forge, they were few and far between! I ended up getting a fully assembled one for a little under $300, it was actually the best deal there.

Beware of the parts kits though, as I'm learning the hard way the bolt catch I got was out of spec. (see my "ar-15 short stroking?" thread in this section, just posted in there a few hours ago)

I believe it's one side rail you cannot use as the magazine is rotated horizontally to insert and remove it. I'm not sure if it can be rotated to either side, but either way you'd need to keep one side of the rail clear in order for the rifle to not be disposable
