Default AK build questions...

OK I know there are some AK sites out there. But figured start on home turf first.

I bought a "virgin" Yugo underfolder kit. Has everything but the reciever. It does have the bulged barrel trunion.

all parts are new in the box.

so here are the questions I have.
1- what are the better recievers?? I called nodak spud, no recievers till mid march...
2- what recievers are crap/ stay far away from?
3- does anyone know of anyone with recievers in stock or floatin around their shelf in the store.
4-Any heads up info I need to know before building..
5- any builders in the N.E. PA area??pocono's region

I figured I need something to do while waiting for my SBR stamp to come in. SO a AK it is. I want a traditional build, no poly stuff.

Snert..

I'd hold on for the Nodak-Spud. They have the best receivers going. Note that you can get a custom serial number; get your receiver numbered to match your parts kit as I did on my last two N-S builds, and you'll have something pretty cool .

When I say hold on, I personally did just that last fall, also for about three months. Worth the wait.

Note that I don't do AK builds, but have a really good craftsman in Youngstown who does them for me. He's done three now, and I couldn't be more pleased.

Regards,

Walt

+1 on the NoDak

It will be worth the wait.

If this is your first build ... the "virgin" kits are suppose to be a lot harder than the demilled ones.

Good luck and post some pics when your done!

well don't hold off for the nodak receiver, download form from their web site and order so you are in the system. some ak builders won't do virgin kits, since they are harder to build, you will wait at least six weeks or more for your kit to be built. overland industries did my builds. i hav another ak just like on the right side in which redjacket did, but i would recomend overland

I bought my kit on gunbroker. I paid $435 for a "virgin" Yugo M70 kit, here is my reasoning...link below is to the same kit I bought from the same seller

http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIte...Item=121219210

I watched all the auctions. Most demills looked pretty beat down and abused. Some had even listed with dark pitted barrels. The demills seem to run in the upper $300 range to low $400. So I figured a virgin kit of all NEW parts was worth the 30-50 bucks more.
I also am still watching the prices of AK's jump drastically. I know the pending obama crap has prices up. And unfortunatly I cant see spending $800+ for a used AK.

I am lookiing to keep her in traditional wood forarm underfolder configuration.

Now I have found recievers from NDS, Ohio rapid fire, and some occasional odd balls on GB.
I would like to build this myself. But would like some guidance along the way from a experianced person. I would do all the hands on work, just need a teacher for the project.
I was planing on building my last AR, but ended up buyiing a complete lower and then a complete upper. Not really a build in my book.

Back on topic here..
So I see 2 votes for the NDS-4, does anyone have first hand experiance with the ohio rapid fire recievers??Who is DCI??good bad ???

NoDak = DCI (Same company)

Second, virgin kits are usually less expensive than demilled kits because of the extra work needed to build them.

Either way ... with everything going the way they are, it's best to buy what you can now anyways. Virgin or demilled.
