The cases are the same. The chambers are not.

Checking my Sierra Rifle Loading Manual as to cartridge dimensions, there is no difference in the 7.62 Nato or the .308 either. Same applies to the .30-06.

Any rifle in any caliber can have excessive or insufficient headspace. Throating can also vary considerably. I have a match grade Wiseman barrel in 7mm-08 that has a tight chamber and snug headspace. It pays to check both on any firearm and use ammunition accordingly for your individual rifle whether chambered for a military cartridge or any other round. It is just easier to find junk ammo for any military cartridge.

I use different sizing dies for individual .30-06 rifles due to difference in headspace.

I would reiterate that it pays to know the quality of the ammunition you feed any firearm and how such ammunition fits in your firearm or you may face disastrous consequences. I may be off the subject, but I suggest chambering every cartridge you intend to use for hunting or you may find one that won't chamber at the critical moment.

I don't know much about the Mini 14, but I have found the article about the AR here
http://www.madogre.com/Interviews/Hate_the_AR15.htm

No surprise, this will make some AR loving people mad, but what the heck.....let put info out there and let the people be informed and decide for what work for them, eh.

Interesting article.......but does nothing to explain why my $500 kit gun went the first 1000 rounds without cleaning the bolt and carrier without a hiccup.....with Wolf ammo.

I'd be happy to replicate it with any of my AR's if someone wishes to pony up for ammo.

Who needs accuracy on a Mini 14, SPRAY and PRAY!!!

But on a more delirious note: The new piston opperated Ar's is probably best way to go, the best of both worlds.

seriously did he say Sears delivery?

That dude in the article seems to hate AR with a passion. I know a few Army and Airforce dudes (high school friends) who also said their AR's jammed even they clean them religiously. I know, I know, going by heresay is never good. But if the man keep hearing "there is a tiger in the street" too many times, he ought to believe it.

Your case are special, 1000 round without a hiccup? Maybe someone would help you buy 1000 rounds of Wolf ammo and let you test and put the video on YouTube for all to see.

I don't think my case is special at all. I've purchased/built 6 AR's and none of them have been troublesome.

The only malfunction I've had in years was actually today when I accidentally loaded 31 rounds in a 30 round mag. Certainly no fault of the rifle.

The AR misinformation is rampant on the net.......

Is that a standard thing now? If not who's making them?
I'm in the market, but I don't know much about them. Right now I've been considering Stag Arms or Fulton Armory.

I'll concede but I could swear I had a file on my PC that showed a slightly different taper of the shoulder. This is gonna drive me nuts.

The Mini-14 is chambered for .223 Remington ans well as 5.56mm. Has always been chambered to fire both rounds, and states so in the factory manual, if any of you would care to actually read one.

I carry a Mini-14 for a SHTF rifle for several reasons...first, it fires .223 or 5.56 ammunition, easy to find anywhere;...second, the rifle can get extremely dirty, and it will still keep firing (sand and mud will not jam the bolt);...third, don't need MOA accuracy, always shot expert in the military, and am quite capable at hitting a man sized target out to 300 meters with iron sights, if I need to shoot farther than that, then my handy-dandy 03-A4 Springfield will handle the job quite nicely.
