I just bought a Remington 7600 pump action in .30-06 which is similar to my father's 760 Gamemaster in .30-06; as part of my 'prerange familiarization' I loaded red plastic snapcaps into the mags I got and proceeded to cycle and shoot the weapon only to have loading jams with the snapcaps; then I had some empty cases around that I shot from the bolt gun I traded in and proceeded to do the same thing; the empty casings won't even attempt to load...
any ideas? does this gun have a problem or do I need to shoot it to break it in? |

Pretty much what you already heard...
Empty cases from another chamber will almost NEVER feed. Snap caps in general are lighter than loaded ammo, that might be it. Don't get concerned until you take it to the range with live ammo. Remember to work it with authority, dont baby it.

Also, If you reload for a pump action rifle make certain that you full length resize the brass everytime. If you just neck size, the rest of the case body will be too big to fit in the chamber. Pump action rifles are very tightly made and very picky as to how you reload for tham as well. I have heard others say their snap caps will work well in pump action rifles, you are not alone.
Also, fired casings from a bolt gun will never work in a pump gun, usually most commercial and most all military bolt guns have what I call "generous" chambers, usually bigger than most pump guns. Brass will swell more from most bolt guns whereas even the pump gun action is somewhat tighter usually, you still get some swell. But do take the advice above, work it like you mean it. Just my $.02 here, your mileage may vary. Respectfully. Uni_Ownr
