Default Need some recommendations for a pair of .22's

My kids want to each get a .22 rifle in the near future, (maybe Christmas presents, Shhh...) so I'm looking for some recommendations for 2 decent but affordable rifles. My oldest son wants a wood stock and the youngest son wants synthetic. No youth rifles...they can both handle standard size.

My only requirements are mag fed bolt action so they can use them to hunt squirrels and such...a scope package would be nice but not mandatory.

If you know anywhere in South Western PA that has a good deal on them...let me know where, also!

I'm very pleased with my son's Savage, as well as my and my wife's Savages. They are accurate, reliable, and a good deal for the money. They do have some scope packages. I highly recommend one with an Accutrigger if you choose a Savage, it's just flat out sweet.

For a good rifle at a good price it's also hard to go wrong with Marlins.

Edit: our family of Savages

How about a pair of CZ 452's. Pretty decent price and a nice gun at that.

+1 for the above.
Don't forget the Ruger 10/22, they come in wood and synth configuration and can be had for less than $200.
My wife loves hers, she can send spent shotgun shells flying at 50yds all day long with the factory sights.

Dunhams circular this week has Savage Mark II-F bolt action .22lr on sale, 10 round detachable magazine bolt action rifle with accutrigger. $149.99 regular $180. The pic shows synthetic stock, maybe they have wood available too.

There are a couple of others, as well as scoped packages, but they are semi-auto.

you can't go wrong with the marlin M925, i have the original m25 and have put thousands of rounds through it with no problems over the years.

savage mkII are another good choice but i've seen that the marlins accurcy will out shoot a savage any day.

Indeed. A CZ452/453 is a gun you can love forever.

I am liking the Savage Accutriggers! The CZ is nice, but may be a bit outta our price range for starter rifles.

You got lucky on them both wanting a different stock, makes it much easier to tell apart, my brothers and sister and I all have the same .22, its a great gun but they are identical so its a little hard telling them apart

I have both a ruger 10/22 and a Savage Mark II.
They are both great and I can't say anything bad on either.

The 10/22 is a great choice for someone since it has so many options. This gives the gun the ability to grow and evolve, just like your kids, to where ever their imaginations (and money ha ha) can take them.

As for the savage, the trigger is sweet and the quality is awesome for the price. It is also wicked accurate... In fact, its so accurate that it almost becomes boring after awhile!

Either one is a great buy though I'd probably lean to the Ruger just for its versitility overall.

Though its just my opinion, I hope it helps!
