Question Hi-Point carbine

Hey guys, I am thinking of getting a hi-point carbine in 9mm to add to my meager collection. I have shot one a couple of times and was impressed with how well it shot. I know the fit and finish aren't the best but for the money it seems to be a good buy. Can anyone give me their takes on this.

StnCld77,

Someone else asked about this not too long ago, here's a link to my gun pics.

Go to PAGE 2 and scroll down to POST #16 to read some of my comments on my carbine.

It really depends on what YOU want in a firearm.
If you have your eyes set on something more expensive, it may make sense to put the money for the Hi-Point in a jar and keep saving! Don't get me wrong, I DO like my 995 carbine, but I'm starting to wonder... I picked up a Yugo SKS at Christmas and now I wish I had the money I spent on the Hi-Point for a Russian SKS. However, I wouldn't SELL the carbine to buy another rifle - so I guess THAT says something good for the Hi-Point?!! Besides, selling a gun is a horrible, horrible thing to do!

Thank you for your input, I haven't been here that long so I am still learning my way around this wonderful site. Due to ammo constraints I want to have a carbine in eiter 9mm or .45 so its either the hi-point or save pennies for a long time for either a storm, or and ar in 9mm both of which are much more expensive.

.45 huh?

You COULD keep waiting (and saving) and see if the .45 Hi-Point carbine becomes a reality.

When I first got my carbine, I used to read the Hi-point forum and there was talk of a .45 being developed/tested. I lost interest in the "how many cool things can I add to my carbine" conversations and stopped reading the forum, so I don't know if it's anywhere near reality. If it does show up, I may consider it, then again, there's that damned Russian SKS, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine... the list goes on and on! Sucks to be poor!

Aw, Hell... just buy the thing and start saving again!

Honestly, my biggest complaint about my carbine is the difficulty tearing it down to clean it. It was made to be produced inexpensively and you really appreciate the design of "finer" firearms when you have to strip down the Hi-Point for cleaning!

Wink Re: Hi-Point carbine

LOL thanks, I think I probably will buy it and if it takes longer to clean it, its that much time my wife can't tell me to do more chores "honey I will help out as soon as I get this gun cleaned" so once again, thank you for your help, and hope to see you around.

I shot a highpoint carabine in 9mm a while ago. It shot pretty good for the price he paid for it.

I'd save up a bit more and get a Sub2000 instead from Kel-Tek.

I have a 9mm hi-point and I love it. Couldn't ask for a better gun in that price range

I bought one for 75 bucks. It is way more reliable than 75 dollars gives it credit for. Good fun gun. By all means buy one.

Thanks Jules, I probably will even if I only get to plink with it, I still will have fun with it. I have had conflicting reports about how hard or easy it is to take apart and put togeter. So I guess I will have to get one for myself and find out.
