Well I wanted to buy one of these *** and just have a gun smith bend the bolt, and as that guy said find parts in online auctions, but I guess you're right. It probably wouldn't save much now that I think of it. I though it would just consist of buying the rifle, mounting accessories, and the scope then having it all slapped together for half the price. I guess I was just being optimistic, because I'm done. I hate to say this. I can't get it at that cost, and I bet in a year from now when I can afford it it'll cost almost times over. This may be a nightmare in the making. Well, it's off to work I go.

Yup. Much like the Garand I want. Can't afford it yet and I know full well that the longer I wait, the more it will cost. Not much I could do about it so I bought an SKS so I'd have something to shoot in the mean time. Problem is, now I want to "collect" more of those commie guns because I fell in love with it! Willtallica, PA Rifleman's suggestion makes sense. Pick up any WWII rifle that you CAN afford and I'm sure you'll still enjoy the feel of a piece of history in your hands! This is an evil addiction... think I'll check into one of those do-it-yourself rehabs that the celebrities find so appealing!

Got a check from uncle sam last night, and with my birth coming up I just might be able to get one of these rifles now. I'll probably just have to pay for half of it if I just ask for cash. For an extra $50 I can have a hand selected stock, and if that means a nice woodgrain I think I should defiantly consider it.

I wasn't involved in the earlier discussion on this thread. But my father in law showed me a Russian rifle he bought back in the 70's. Said he got it from Sears and paid $30 for it. The rifle looks an awful lot like the one's in the pic's. Can you tell me anything about it based upon the following information:
On the barrel forward of the action is the number 1936 followed by what looks like a right angle-basically the lower half of the letter "F." Below that is a six digit number that is repeated on the bottom of the "magazine." I assume that is the serial number? On the bolt is the number 3786 and the number 8607 appears on the butt plate. I'm guessing it is a 1891-30 based upon info on www.saunalahti.fi Can you tell me any more about it? Thanks for any help. |

![]() Many Mosins and a few SVT-40s came into the US in the 1950s & 60s from the Finns as surplus, his rifle could have been one of that batch if SA marked. Quote:

A few URLS that may answer your questions: http://www.mosinnagant.net/ http://7.62x54r.net/ http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/ Based on the date, it's probably a garden-variety M1891/30 since it predates both the M1938 and M1944. Not without more information, even a photo would help. Have a look at this post, the bottom photo on particular: http://tinyurl.com/2rxayw We might need a Mosin section. |

Thanks for your help. I will try to get a pic up at some point. That may take a while. The in-laws live a couple hours away.
I will follow those links and pass the information on to the father-in-law. I'm sure he sends his appreciation as well. |

Get a German Mauser. You'll be more pleased with it than with that rusty russian piece of crap.I had one and got rid of it for $60.Very poor tooling. Now,on the other hand ,the Dragunov, which replaced the old 91/30 as a sniper rifle,is worth buying if you can find one under $4000.Just my two cents.
