Default FMJ vs TMJ

Full Metal Jacket vs Total Metal Jacket.

Is there a leading problem with open based/exposed lead bullets?

I have been using American Eagle "Federal" 150 gr. FMJ 308 Winchester, my hand loads are usually 155 gr. Sierra HPBT. They shoot at bench rest 1" or less. American Eagles shoot at 3"@100 yards. average.

I'm very concerned about the exposed lead, especially where the gas port and piston is concerned.

FMJ is best when using a gas operated weapon, due to the lead deposits you talk about.

eventually, it will build up on the piston, and can also build up in the gas port...its pretty slow in accumulation, but can be an issue.

just shoot FMJ and be done with it

(Ned moves his joystick to take a laymen's shot at this one)
I'm going to assume you are speaking of lead that is exposed at the front on the bullet..like a hollowpoint..compared to a fully encased lead core bullet with a completely encapsulated jacket covering..as per a 'full jacket'?

Per my last week studies of the internet related stuffies..related to lead exposure per indoor ranges..compared to lead casters..per normal wear and tear on non-shooters of lead... I'd say worry if you are single and care about yourself if you shoot a semi auto outdoors in a head wind with lead cast bullets. Forgetaboutit if you shoot jacketed based rounds..if your married with kids and cast or shoot lead indoors... 'stupid is as stupid does' Maybe not yell so loud when your kid can't catch a ball as well as you remember you could. :P And Godfobid you are a Civil War cannon re-enactor that has the swab position! Then again car fatalities are responsible for .......

Can we get Midway or Cabelas to carry LeadX wipes for us that do shoot lead and reach for that donut and coffee at the shoot!!??
