Default Galil "Golani" 5.56X45

Do any of you have any experience with the Galil "Golani" 5.56X45 rifle? I'm thinking of selling one of my Romy G's and buying one. Why are they so expensive and are they "worth it"? How available are the mags?

Thanks!

Here is my take on it..

The Galil (original one) was banned from importation like others. So the original ones pre-ban come with a heavy price tag

Now you have centry arms building them from parts kits on US made recievers. I do not know why they are running upto $1K. And I would honestly like to know a fair market value myself.
Some folks refer to the folks at century as "the angry beavers" because some stuff is just slopped together.

Snert...

PS. I am sure someone else will be along to give you better info.

I just bought one yesterday at Dunhams. I fired over 600 rounds through it as soon as I got it home and cleaned it. I love it. It shoots as good as the original Galil I had years ago. The price was 799.00. They only got four in and I bought the third one. There was only one left. This was at century three mall in West Mifflin.

FWIW, "Rey's" experience echos what I have read on other boards about the "Golani Galil" from Century - which is outsourced to "another builder" like their Yugo and Hungarian AKMs.

Don't be so quick to sell Century so short - I have also heard good things about their recent "FALs"; which have been making the folks low on DSA dollars happy FAL owners.

its a very heavy ak type rifle due to the milled receiver.

as far as mags go your options are either to use galil spec mags or try to find a magazine adapter that will allow you to use AR15 type magazines.

I recall that the AR15 magazine adaper might require some fitting for it to work in the weapon.

good luck in your decision

Thanks guys. I'm just wondering why these Golani models cost so much. The best price I've seen so far was $699. My Romy G cost $379, plus $110 for the new furniture and AK-74 style flash hider. That's quite a bit of a price difference. I have to admit that the Galils look cool though.
