I agree, but I know there is a common ground here. I am just like some of those guys that don't like Glock's or Beretta's, I don't like either of those and I don't like the M-16 / AR-15. I prefer older military weapons. I see now the military to trying to re-fit, if you will, the M-16 / M-4 to the new 6.8 SPC round, first off the casing for that loading has been outdated since who knows when. It was the .30 Remington. Why didn't they neck down the 7.62 NATO casing and work off the same platform or the AR-10 platform at least. That would have made the most sense to me. Or, use the M-14 / SOCOM platform too. I know too many people that think the M-16 platform is way too outdated, too weak, and falliable, whereas they agree the SOCOM and the 6.8 SPC would be a better choice. I think the 7.62 necked down to the 6.8 / .270 round would have more speed and stomp that the military is looking for. Our troops right now are complaining about the 9mm and the 5.56, so the Gov't drug out the M-14's for specific roles, and some .45's. Good idea. But trying to make a new round off of outdated technology that is obsolete is absurd.

I also don't recall seeing too many Al-Qaeda or Taliban guys running around with B.P. Vests.

how do you know u didnt see any? Who are you to say there are not Al-Qaeda or whatever in the United States just sitting around waiting to blow something up?

how many times before 9/11 was commercial airliner used as a weapon?

also just to add you brought up about people behind you with rifles when you say that it makes me think that you rather do battle with 6 people with M1 carbines, than with 12 people with ARs.

Fulton, Look man, I'm not trying to argue with you. I am a person of sound mind and body and I know through my own self what I know. O.K.?

This is America, we have the right to our own opinions, and to state them too. I'm not going to argue with you. I have seen my share of life in the military and I also know what I see and read and through talking to Iraq War Veterans themselves they know what they saw too. You have your right to say the M-1 Carbine is inferior and I have the right to say the M-4 is inferior. I'm dropping the subject with you. Have a nice night and a nice life.

Resectfully and Good Night. Uni_Ownr

The Army isnt going to stick with the M-16s/M-4s for much longer. HK has been working on a multitude of new weapons that will replace them. The XM-8 project is one of them. And one of the newest ones is the HK 416. Its got the reliablity of the AK packaged into the accuracy of the M-16/M-4. It will fire no matter if its been dunked in sand, water, or mud. Its all thanks to the new gas piston operating system that HK has developled. These weapons are far superior then the current M-4/M16 even though a lot of the newer designs look like them. They are very similar but have enough changes that make them better.

That being said i doubt ill be able to get my stuff into the CMP before they go on sale.. But i would gladly pick up one of these peices of history. Even if cant quite afford one. I have a thing for WW2 weapons and after firing them and those of today. The newer weapons really dont hold a candle to those built during and after WW2. Dont get me wrong the ARs are decent weapons but at least you know damn well the enemy was going down if you hit them with a round from the garand.

Kenshin, I would like to ask, what caliber is this new HK going to be in? I've been out of the service for a good while now and I agree with you on the nostalgia of the older WWII weapons. The AR? Decent enough for groundhogs where I'm from. I agree with you on the Garand too. They went down and stayed put. I know, it is an apples to oranges comparison, but I'll stick to the .30 calibers before I rely on a .223 / 5.56.

I think it's quite safe to say that every rifle the U.S. military ever used was loved and hated by the people that used them.

The Pennsylvania Rifle was a great rifle for accuracy, but was very slow to reload compared to smooth bores. Even General Washington was known to keep his riflemen at the rear where they could flee from cavalry.

Others that come to mind off the top of my head...

The Krag rifle was underpowered.

The M1 Garand had a weak operating rod.

The M1 Carbine was underpowered and not good at longer ranges.

The M14 wood stock was no good in the jungle, it was heavy, ammo was heavy and it had a heavy recoil.

The M16 round was too light and unstable. It needs too much maintenance.

People even hate the AK47 because it is not an accurate rifle.

At the same time, you will find thousands of soldiers that loved these same weapons and tell tales of how they saved their lives.

There is no perfect design for everyone.

It should also be known that Colt also created a piston driven version of the AR/M4 years ago. It is the U.S. Military that is sticking with it's TDP on the AR platform. IMHO it could be a long time before we see any changes...just like the failure to adopt the new .45 acp handgun.

Smile and be happy fellas'

I had an idea about the 6.8 cal. the military wants to go with and the platform they could use it on, and the brass they could have used as well. But it is a moot point and I don't think it would be a well received topic here Buckmark.

Granted, the M-1 Carbine is limited in range. I will admit that proudly. But, here is a worthwhile article I had stashed in my files. Please, don't just skim through it, read it? I was not referring that M-1 Carbine is a long distance shooter, I was merely trying to say that I would feel more comfortable with it in a close quarters battle with an M-1 Carbine than I would with something else.

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...47/ai_74033105

This article is a fact and it is true. I have seen actual tests done with this weapon and I can back it up as I saw it.

Thank you for your time folks.

Respectfully. Uni
