find a usgi carbine anywhere for that or less.
gun show? HAHA, i think not.
my little shop gets in, on average, one usgi carbine every 8 months. they normally spend less than 2 hours, offen as little as 20 minutes in the shop.total.
more often than not they go from the guy's hand that drops them off, to whom ever buys it. the shop keeper does'nt even need to touch them, and they're out the door.
i've missed the last two, though i did score a vet bring back a couple years ago.

I don't think they'll have any import marks on them. I don't think the CMP Garand I bought had any.

Thanks for the update. Here is the link if any are interested

http://www.odcmp.com/rifles/carbine.htm

I don't know. $517.95 for a USGI Service Grade Inland seems ok compared to what I see them selling for. It's not as great a deal as they had for the M1 but still seems fair.

Am I out of line in thinking this?

Dave

it's not hard to find mags for them, it's not that much more difficult to find nib mags for them.

last year syda's had a case of new in the wrap underwood mags for 10 bucks a pop. i should have picked the whole case up, could have made a pretty good turn around on epay now.

yeah but another $250 and i can could buy a another AR15

or i could buy a AK for that price or cheeper

and just to add no one has seen these rifles so are the part numbers going to match? are the barrels going to be eroded? noone can really say for sure so.....
yeah a M! might cost more at a gun show but all the parts prolly match and the gun may or not be in better condition

i would be willing to bet they recieved these M1s in a huge pile in a shipping container and boxes full of the bolts from them

like i said it your money

if i get a M1 ill try and pick up one of the winchesters

Fulton, That is the beauty of it. You get one from the CMP and as you go along to gun shows and etc. you get the right parts. Don't knock it till you tried it. I'd rather have 6 men behind me with M-1 Carbine's than I would have 12 men behind me with AR's. Call me old fashioned, but this is just my $.02.

I can attest to the CMP. I have a CMP M-1 Garand I know those folks carefully go over each piece and part before it goes out the door. The Gov't didn't care back in the day whether each part and piece was original or not, if they {The Armorers} could make it work with whatever they had in stock regardless of the manufacturer, they used it. There is only one mis-matched part on my Garand, there is an SA bolt and rest is H&R. H&R made the truest to blueprint spec M-1 Garand's in existence. I should still have the link to that somewhere. Even troops in the field would scavenge arms to get parts to make theirs work, whether it was a Rock Ola Carbine and the Winchester part fit and worked, they'd run it. It saved their lives, it just might save yours too.

I don't see where it is. But then again, who is to judge?

I'd like to know how you came to that conclusion. You think the AR is a better weapon? I may sound silly to you, but I would rather have an M-1 Carbine or and M-14 or an M-1 Garand over any AR made. Just my opinion, like I stated earlier. I know plenty of Veterans that feel the same way I do here. They may be older men but they know through their experiences, like they should.

No offense nor disrespect meant here.

im just sayin a a M1 carbine wont penetrate a Vest where the 5.56 round will go threw, sure it would hit them hard but they would still get up. Also the 5.56 has a longer effective range.
