I for one am looking forward to them being released. As previously stated CMP isnt going to try to bone ya' in the ass for one of these and while it is impossible to know weather one was activly used in war they are still a great piece of history. CMP ROCK ON!

I have a CMP junkie buddy who sits on the CMP web page and clicks his refresh button every five minutes or so to check and see if they are available yet. Heck, he has already stocked up on magazines, and does not have another carbine at home. He is praying that the CMP will have a supply of mags as well. As he found out at the gun show recently and at a gun shop, USGI mags are copied and sold just like every other junk mag on earth. I am sure there are some good ones out there, but it always seems like a trial and error thing. I picked up a cheap Iver Johnson M1 Carbine and all of the aftermarket mags work just fine.

Sorry to revive a week old thread...

Orest at CMP has stated that currently there are no mags being offered, but that may change in the future.
Just to be safe I ordered mags from Numrich, who right now seem to have the best prices at just a little over $10 for a USGI 15 rounder still in wrap. I've seen them jump in some places as high as $15 (from $7, before the CMP carbine release news), so if you definately plan to buy a carbine through the CMP (or otherwise) I recommend you pick up some mags now as the demand is already starting to push prices up.

I've ordered mags for a firearm I don't even own yet.

They're rare, but keep an eye out for the Erma Werke 30rd magazines. These were made back in the 60's - dont get them confused with the junk 30 rounders made today.

These M1 Carbines were most likely NOT used in war. These would most likely be surplus that were 'lent' to the countries we were rebuilding (in this case Italy) after WW2. When they were done with them they had to give them back (as I understand it).

I am curious - what kind of 'import' markings will these have? Will there be any differentiation between these and a M1 Carbine someone obtained in the 50's (or brought home from the war)? Be neat to see what kinds of variants we can expect to find. I have like five of my own, but I will love to see what people obtain.

Nothing wrong with that. It only shows that you are a optimist. I already have 1K rounds waiting for the rifle.

Angry Re: M1 CARBINE

Update – 23 March, 2007: We have started the inspection of the M1 Carbines that were recently transferred to the CMP. Because the carbines were received with the bolts removed and many are in heavy preservative, the process is taking longer than expected. We will begin accepting carbine orders for Inland carbines on 30 April, 2007. The Inland carbines are priced at $495.00 each. Carbine orders received prior to 30 April will be returned to the sender. Other manufacturers will not be available until later in the year. At this time no decisions have been made as to pricing. We are not accepting orders or establishing waiting lists at this time. We will post new information as it becomes available.

$495 plus $22.95 for shipping is alittle high i think with no mag or anything else
