Default Dirty M44

I just "inherited" my older brothers m44 and the barrel is nice and rusty on the inside, I know he used corrosive surpplus ammo and never cleaned the damn thing, I was just wondering if shooting a few rounds then cleaning the barrel would clear up the rust. or if shooting the gun while it was rusted might cause some inhernt danger to me or others. I was wondering what steps i should take to clean it out?

Not that I am a gunsmith but, I would never shoot a rusted gun. At the very least I would scrub the barrel until all the rust is gone and the cleaning patches come out clean.

I would not expect it to be a great shooter becuase if the rust could have damaged the bore.

I always like to have a gunsmith look over any old or used guns before i shoot them.

If it is light rust, shoot it out.
Then clean it good.
