Lower Parts Kit question

Is there any difference between a typical lower parts kit from RRA or DPMS or Del-Ton or any other manufacturer?

Is there some that you should not buy at all? Parts that fail more than usual?

Opinions wanted.

I've gotten LPK from RRA and Del-Ton. They are both very good. I wouldn't spend the extra money on the JP adjustable trigger from Del-Ton though. I like the RRA 2 stage triggger, and modified single stage triggers.

Parts are parts. Just have a "field repair kit" in case you have a failure on the range. You'll be able to make repairs in the field and continue to shoot. About $19. Pretty much the same if they are mil-spec as pretty much all should be. Trigger quality can be a little better on the better kits. I like RRA myself, which you can find for $59 on AR-15.com from Legal Transfers aka Pete.

The LPK's are pretty universal unless you are getting something with a different type trigger. I use only RRA's with the 2 stage NM trigger group. I like the feel and don't need to spend the money for a Timney or a JP. Agree that you should always carry a spare parts kit when taking it out, not saying that it will break or malfunction, but the nature of the beast and how some people will treat it compared to another type rifle, you may see more problems (or may never see any problems, but why take the chance and have your shooting day ruined).

Guys, thanks for the replys. I am contemplating whether or not the RRA LPK is worth the 15 or so bucks more than the DPMS LPK. I don't need anything fancy right now, just the basic kit. Sounds like it isn't much different than the DPMS. If anyone can give me a sound reason why to get the RRA kit for more money, please do.

Not much difference. I own and have installed both. The RRA has a less gritty trigger than the DPMS kit but the diference is minimal. DPMS kits can be had for $50-$55 typically and the RRA kits for $60-$70.

Can that "grittiness" be smoothed out? Is it something that can be polished or smoothed?

Now, are you talking about basic, single stage triggers here, or are you comparing 2 stage triggers?

When I was considering the Del-Ton kit, I debated on whether to upgrade to the RRA National Match, 2-stage trigger. Since I went with the RRA kit, I had no choice, the kit came with the NM 2-stage trigger.

I am VERY happy with the way it feels. If you ever want to go to the club and take a look at it, just ask.
