Default Re: ??? about the 6.8 spc round

We have a better chance of seeing $1 a gallon gasoline again than we have of seeing the Army adopt the 6.8.

Also, I would buy new mags instead of doing anything that required me to manually change the profile of the feed lips. That's just long series of headaches and profanity waiting to happen.

The 6.8, 6.5, (and I believe) .260 all fit into the "standard" AR platform. The .243 is based on the .308, and will not, to the best of my knowledge, fit in the standard reciever size. Those of you who have seen .308 size ARs know there is a substantial difference in size and weight.

Ballistically, the 6.8 was designed to be accurate to 600m, highly destructive in soft tissue, and be optimized out of a 16" barrel (yes, I have a source for this but he wouldn't appreciate me using his name.)

The 6.5 Grendel was designed as a longer range target round, and will outperform the 6.8 at distances greater than 600m.

I can't really speak for the .260, but a lot of the "out west" 3 gun guys are shooting them.

Like tomcat said, do the research before you spend the cash.

+1 to what DPB said on all accounts. As far as I know, you can only get the .243 on a rifle that is built in the AR-10 platform. From what I have heard and read, they are not all made to one particular spec, so some of the parts will not be interchangeable the way they are in the AR. Since you sounded like you only wanted to change out the upper, then that would probably make this caliber a no go. If I can help you in any way, please let me know. I just want people to be educated and know what they're getting into, in terms of bullet choices, brass choices, cost, and what it all sort of equates to in terms of ballistics. Best of luck to ya.

Olympic makes a .243 and .25 WSSM on the AR15 platform.

Can you say 50gr bulllets at nearly 4000fps?

Yes Tomcat, i only wanted to switchout the upper i did nt want to mess with the lower being that i have so much invested in .223/5.56 . mags

I guess the 6,5 and 6.8 is a no go if i want to keep cost down.

THanks, Nyman

Me?

Next time I go down. Maybe today. I'll take not of these things and get back to you! (sorry, I don't remember) They were brown boxes with red labels - I think.
