Scud is on a distinguished road
Default Re: Chinese SKS

For some odd reason, (after 15 years of colecting) I picked up my first SKS yesterday. I swore that I would never get one. I also picked up a nice ChiCom. The prices have gone up, but I still got a deal. The weapon's design is top notch. It's only limitations seem to be magazine capacity and caliber, (neither of which are too bad to begin with.

I will have to admit that after fieldstripping the Norinco SKS that I found myself as enamoured with it as say any FAL, AK, FS2000, Robinson, M-1, HK, Springfield, Armalite, Valmet, AR, Daewoo or any other semi auto that I own -- even if it just was for the evening.

I guess that it fills the role of a fat chick, or a moped --- Fun to ride as long as your buddies don't see you.

Good Buy. Congrats!

Chinese SKS. Looks like it was kept in a safe for a long time. I found this at Enck's Gun barn, and Bob had told me it was traded in only an hour and half before I got there.

Brad

Nice rifle. How old is that one?

I have 2 Chinese from 1957 and just got a 1951 Russian about a month ago for $125 with 60 rounds and about 100 stripper clips.

Honestly I don't know. It doesn't have any markings. The only thing it says on the left side is "made in China by CGA. Imported by GLNIC LA CA". Looking at pictures off other sites I cannot distinguish certain parts to precisely date it. It almost seems as if the gun has old and new parts on it. I don't know if that would be correct or not. I think that I'll stick to it being a newer model rifle for now. This one cost me $150 for those who want to know. It was a joy to shoot though along with my Fixed Yugo.

Brad.

There were a few handguns too.

It was almost a group shoot.
Our intention was to test fire 2 Yugo SKS to make sure the replacement firing pins would function properly, (and they did). Then you bought a Chinese SKS yesterday that had to be test fired, and you had that 7.62X54 that I don't remember the name of, that's a nice shooting gun.
I had to fire a few rounds from my CZ .222 to get them out of the way so I could reload them, Garry had to finally fire his CZ .223, (bought it before Christmas, waited this long to enjoy it), TheBuckslayer had to test a few reloads in his CZ .223, then we had to let you shoot something other than a Glock. (Revolvers can be fun too). For some reason we didn't even fire my SKS, (What was I thinking?).I guess we were just having too much fun.
It turned out to be a great day in spite of the cool breeze. (OK, the temp and moving air made it a cold windy day), but we still had fun.
And talk about good timing, I was about half way home when it started to rain. We couldn't have planned it better if we tried.
We're going to have to do it again real soon.
I'm sure we can get brian, nijwnfi, and a few others to join us.

Very nice rifle, I like the tan finish. I have a question- is it reasonably accurate? I've always wanted an SKS, and I think this summer I'm going to snag one (got to buy, buy and buy some more before the elections!).

So, the firing pin was the problem on that Yugo? Was the shoulder worn down?
