I'm looking to purchase/acquire a rifle/carbine chambered for a handgun load.
As I already own handguns in .357Mag./38Spl. and .45ACP, I'm looking to maximize ammo synergies by adding a longgun chambered for one of these loads. Does anyone have any experience with these types of rifles/carbines? Any thoughts on advantages/disadvantges, preferences, etc. of such handgun chambered longguns you folk have, please freely express. By the way I have links to the carbines/rifles I am considering below. My Henry .22 lever is outstanding, if I were in the market for a pistol-cal lever, I'd consider a Henry based on my experience with the .22.

Okay, I looked into this for a while. I love the idea. I was personally thinking about a .357 lever action rifle with a matching .357 wheelgun, with the idea that they can both use .38 spl and .357 mag rounds.
I think I was personally looking at Marlin and Winchester rifles for this purpose. This was also as I just started getting into shooting, so this would have been my first non-airgun of any kind. In the end I shifted around enough times and came to own a beretta storm carbine in 9mm. Then I got into target shooting and realized that what I want to do at 100 yards and what 9mm want to do at 100 yards are rather different things. I ended up selling the storm and getting a marlin lever action in .22lr that I love. |

Yeah, I have shot Frenchy's lever in both .38 and .357 amd it is a sweet shooter. Has me thinking of picking one up so I can practice rifle shooting on the indoor range at PMSC.

Also, part of this is "what are you using it for?" If it's deer hunting in PA brush, it's going to be great. If you are looking for 500 yard shots along power line cuts, you may want something with a bit more ballistic potential.
This summer I shot a couple of lever actions in 44 mag and .357, and they were great. They did have more kick than I expected, but that may have been because they were some ambitious handloads. |

I have a Ruger bolt action carbine in 44 (Ruger 77/44) that I use for deer hunting. That way I can carryy my Ruger Redhawk and the carbine and only carry one type of ammo. The carbine is very accurate and a great brush gun.
