Default AK-47

My buddy who is in the Army and over in Iraq currently said that they take a lot of AK's from the insurgents over there. He came back on leave for a few weeks last summer, and while we were at Dunhams he made a comment about the AK's on display. He learned over in Iraq there is a pin or something near the firing pin that can be rubbed off to make it fully automatic, but its not reversible. I'm not saying I am going to do it, as I remain within the law, but has anyone else heard of this about the AK?

Thanks for visiting our forum! If you ever plan to return you should consider quickly registering for a forum account, especially if you're in Pennsylvania. It's simple to do and best of all free. Once registered you'll be able to participate in our discussions and keep up to date on issues important to Pennsylvania firearm owners!

I figured it was an old wive's tale. I've heard pretty much anything can be converted. Never believed it, nor care to do it.

Oh, it's true that almost anything can be converted, but you need a machine shop and an experienced gunsmith to do it. The "just file down this pin" thing will usually just deactivate the gun, if it does anything at all.

The only thing filing down something is going to do is make the gun not work.

Not only that but I think it would be wise to take down that picture.
