Default Savage model 110 vs. 111

Can someone please fill me in on what differences there are between the Savage model 110 and 111? I know from their website that the 110 comes with a walnut stock and the 111 synthetic but is that the only difference? Savage Arms doesn't seem to be too interested in taking calls or e-mail.

What I am looking for is a reasonably priced heavy barrel 30.06. Any suggestions? I am intenting this for all around use - target, plinking, and maybe some hunting. I don't really know what to expect for price or whether I should be looking new (preferred) or used but my budget would be in the $500 - $800 range.

Thanks for your help.

You can get a Savage for under 500 bucks. With a heavy barrel around 550

The 110 and 111 are the same with exception of the stock type. They are sporter barrels unless you get the 110fp, which is the police/tactical version and are heavy-barrel and matte black finish. You will probably find a heavy barrel easier in a .308(it would be a 10fp, not a 110fp). You can also look at the model 12 series. It is their varmint series and are all heavy-barrel guns. Very accurate out of the box!!!

If you really want a savage and have any questions check out www.savageshooters.com. I'm a regular member there and if you need info that is the place to find it.

Hope this helps,
mike

Thanks for the information. I was hoping to stay with 30.06 simply because I already have an M-1 Garand in that caliber. Looking at the Savage on line manual, I see that the 110fp is offered in 25.06 and 300WSM, both long action. There is also a model 112 in the varmint series with 25.06 and 300 Win Mag chambers. So, they obviously have a 30 cal heavy barrel and have chambered for the longer 25.06 case so I was hoping there would logically be a heavy barrel chamberd for 30.06 and I just couldn't see it.
I have a model 12 in .223 and I like it a lot. One reason I started looking at Savage for my next gun purchase.
Thanks again for your help. I'll check out the savageshooters link.
