Got one of the first Marlins back when they introduced the caliber... love it and kill groundies with is routinely at over 100 yds.

I fear you may have a hard time "improving" upon your Savage enough to warrant mention. The Savage 17 is a fine shooting and very accurate rifle, if yours is pre accu-trigger a new model would offer improvement there. The Marlins are said to be slightly more accurate by many but the difference is splitting hairs.

CZ's are touted by many to be the elite of the current 17s.

I only have first hand with a very early model Marlin with a lam stock and bull barrel. It is extremely accurate. I considered replacing the POS Simmons 6-18 scope that my local dealer talked me into buying with something better but it shoots so well that I'm afraid to change it.

Curious what model he has, the 93R17 is hard to beat. Savage rifles with accutrigger are in general hard to beat.

A .17HMR Handi-Rifle would be badass.

I know the Ruger 77/17 that my best friend had was extremely accurate. It was actually really pretty and had nice wood on it. It shot really nice groups too. I've shot alot of 17's, although I have yet to shoot a CZ. I have shot some savages, and I haven't found a .17 that I like better than that 77/17. I'm sure the CZ would be right there, but as I said, I have yet to shoot one.
