The reciever is stamped springfield. I looked up the serial number and it was made in august 1942, but the barrel is federal ordiance. The front part of the reciever is also stamped with federal ordiance. I have looked at some reweld pics, and mine I cant see any of the tell tale sighs. Its also stamped tanker on the side. I know its not an original tanker, but I was hoping the rreciever isnt a reweld. Thanks for your replys so far.

Rewelds are few and far between (I have only seen one..and it worked fine and was very well done), if you can't tell by the obvious signs you are probably in the clear.

Another way to tell is looking at the parkerizing, the weld wont parkerize the same color as the steel.

I had a reweld H & R Garand that I bought in the mid 80's for around $400.00, from the old Abington Guns. Two different ways to check for sure is to look for mottling on the inside receiver and to compare the serial number to the heat treat batch number on the forward leg of the receiver. Most receivers were re-welded with two different halves so the series don't match up with the time frame.

My M1 looked good, didn't know it was a re-weld until I field-stripped it when I got home and noticed the very slight discoloration going vertically about mid-receiver. The jerk shop-owner wouldn't refund my money, so I kept the rifle and shot it until I sold the M1 to a young WW2 re-enacting friend just starting out in the late 90's. The re-weld rifle functioned as well as my 4 CMP M1's.

Federal Ordnance closed up ship, so forget spares that deviate from USGI specs. Most of what's said about Fed Ord isn't good, as in...run away.
