Russian SKS

I saw a real nice Russian SKS today for about $275. It was in real good condition. Is this a good price from a gun shop?

If the bore is nice, wood is decent and the numbers match then that is a good price. Make sure it its a real Russian. I have seen a Yugo SKS trying to be sold as a Russian for that price. Nice Russians usually go for between $300-350. Good luck and give us pics!

Anything in particular to identify it as Russian?

Numbers matched, wood was goos, didn't have my reading glasses to check the bore.

I may go back next weekend and buy it.

Russian gun have machined trigger group instead of stamped.
I know Chinese Type 56 is mostly stamped. Donno about Yugo tho

The Yugo is machined as well. A Russian SKS will have either a star with an arrow in it (Tula) or a circle with a triangle inside of it and an arrow inside the triangle (Izhevsk) on the receiver cover. Also, the serial numbers start with cyrillic letters on the Russians (at least I'm pretty sure they all do).

The Chinese are pretty easy to spot with the Chinese stamps and the Yugos with the grenade launchers on are pretty obvious as well. Could be an older Yugo or an oddball country if it's not a Russian.

Dave, from what I can recall, that sounds pretty damned good for a Russian found in a gun shop.
I want one really, really bad.

I dismissed SKS rifles for years.(to bulky, 10 round mag, "poor man's AK"...)
Now I'm kicking myself for not buying one years ago.(and another one each year! I would love one from each Country)

I bought my first SKS way back in 94. It was my very first gun i've ever bought.
It was Chinese Type 56, serial number 07134, nanufactured sometime in 89 by CGA in China with box and cleaning kit - including green oil bottle that leaked. lol

Anyway, I paid $70 for it then. And I sold it in 98 for $125(it has scope, folding stock, spike bayonet by that time), and I thought I got deal.....I had to sell it because I needed money for new tire for my car, and I was poor college student
Gun is long gone, but I still remember my serial number, because it was my first gun. And it was cool. all my hillbillie friend had their daddy's 30-30 winchester or 22 singleshot, I had .30 caliber semi-auto with 10rds, with bayonet. I thought I was cool

EM, I never thought of buying one till I shot yours. Is it wrong to covet another mans SKS?
