Both the mini-14 and mini-30 use their own proprietary, ruger designed magazine.

i have seen a company that makes mags that it advritises as working in both mini 14 and ar 15, (i think there was another it was supposed to work in too (was it galil???)) but the reports i hear id didnt work well in ANY of them.
id immagine with enough time, money, and design, you could get an ar mag to work in a mini, but to answer your question, NO, they are NOT the same. |

Mini 14's use a mag with front and rear locking points, like an M14 or M1A. The AR mags use a side port. Ram line made, or perhaps still makes a combo mag that works in both. It is part #MAC1530. I have 4 of them. They work in the mini, and my Colt AR, but not in my Oly. They are also made from a soft plastic, and you can not keep them loaded, the rounds will pop out. They don't get used much, but they are interesting. I would not use them for defensive work. I do not have a mini 30, but I am very sure that they also use a propriatary mag, and will not accept AK mags.
