Default Pitcairn Monroeville Sportsmen's

As some of you may or may not have known, the F.I.R.E. Institute has been searching for a gun club in SW PA ever since the closing of GPGC. Last month Pete and I attended the PMSC BoD's meeting and addressed the board with regard to PMSC hosting our classes.

They contacted us last week and requested that we attend the general membership meeting as they were going to have the members vote on the matter. We were again given an opportunity to *plead our case* so to speak and answer questions.

I'm happy to report that the motion to allow us use of their facility was approved. The primary issue, and understandably so, was liability. That matter has been put to rest by Peter and myself becoming members. They talked to their insurance carrier and were informed that so long as we are members, our training classes are viewed as a club activity and will be covered under the clubs policy.

Any former members of GPGC who have been looking for a new club to join should consider PMSC. It is a very nice and well maintained club. It is located in North Versailles which is on the east side of Pittsburgh (about 10 minutes south of Monroeville).

In addition to the general rifle and pistol ranges, the IPSC league has built a dozen or so ranges in the back part of the club. Most are pistol sized bays but two are suitable for carbine use (30 yards by 50 yards) and they have one 150 yard range under construction.

When we were at the BoD's meeting last month I arrived early and took some pictures. They even have a shoot house.

Tony,

I haven't joined another club yet but might consider PMS even though it's a "two tunnel" club. I have to shoot somewhere.

If you or anyone else decides to join, please do us a favor and indicate *FIRE Institute* as your sponsoring member. We did tell them we'd do our best to encourage our shooting acquaintances to join.

Some membership information.

At the meeting last Wednesday we asked for clarification on the special dues rate they were offering.

Normally new member dues are a $100 initiation fee + a $60 annual dues fee for a total of $160.00 (new member).

The special rate being offered to new members until the end of the year is $100 (meaning they are essentially waiving the $60 dues).

In January 2007 the annual dues increase to $75.

From the PMSC recording Secretary:

"For all new memberships the cost will be $100 plus a prorate of $5 per month for the remaining months left in this calendar year. This rate will pay up new members until December 31st 2007".

What this means is that if you wait until 2007 to join it will cost you $175 ($100 initiation + $75 dues) for calendar year 2007. If you join now it will cost you $115 and you will be paid up for October 2006 through December 2007. You will not have to pay the full $75 renewal for 2007.

Any questions please contact Kenny Beck (the PMSC membership committee chairman) at kebreb@verizon.net.

You people,

Remember GPGC? Well now it could be PMS.

At one time I worked for a company called Pittsburgh Mechanical Systems, or for short---------.

Siobhra, The two tunnel reference (at rushhour) could easily cause PMS like reactions and not be gender specific.

Tony, I think i will join the PMS Club. I'll need to sight in some deer rifles soon and see how the eye reacts to rifle fire (4 weeks to eye stitch removal).

I guess I am pretty confused. I became a member last night but the application said it was $60 dues and $40 for the initiation fee. I sent a check for $100. I'll have to check in with them and make sure I've paid the proper amount.

Their website says
Quote:
For new memberships, our fee is $100.00 ($40.00 for the initiation fee and $60.00 yearly dues)
. Also, my understanding is that the $75 dollar dues are for current members that don't renew before the end of the year. Sort of like a $15 penalty for not getting the dues in on time.

High Child, you paid the correct amount. Sometimes old info pops up and gets misunderstood as current info. Just trying to clear up any confusion.

Just saw Tony's pictures-nice!
