A query on the VIP membership at SPAG.
The only two differences between the regular membership and the VIP membership according to their website is that with the VIP membership you get:
(1) free gun rental; and
(2) you can use your own ammo.

To me, a person who would probably buy their ammo anyway, (2) is of little value. But I do have a question on (1). If I have $15 (or whatever the gun rental value per session is) and a regular membership card, would I not have a greater leverage in getting SPAG to rent me a gun that I'd like to try out, as opposed to just a VIP card? In other words, a VIP member already spent his money on the membership, and has no leverage in getting the storekeeper to lend him a firearm ("we'll lend you one of these four guns."). With the $15 rental, a regular member will be able to get the storekeeper to rent him other guns ("Yeah, if you pay us, of course we'll go and rent you that gun!").

Just wondering...

They have certain rent-only guns. You can choose from that. You might get to try one of the used guns for sale, if you can convince them that you might actually buy it if you like it.

The VIP membership is worth it, not because you can get free rentals, but because their ammo is so excrutiantingly expensive.

Also, you theory fails, because for the extra $150 on top of the regular $150 membership, you would only get to rent 10 guns, (9 really, if you count tax). Thats less than one gun a month. So if you plan on getting a yearly membership, you'd figure you'd want to try out a lot more guns than that.

Thank you Diego, for the tip on the ammo. Alright, I'll drop by on the 23rd for a VIP membership.

From all the postings above, and from other sources, it sounds like a pretty good club to join. Not only for all the advantages listed above, but according to mapquest it is 1.6 mi from work. Hopefully, I'll be able to use it during lunch breaks. (People do go to ranges over lunch breaks, right?)

Query: they say that they have a NRA training people on site, but they do not advertise that they give any NRA course. The NRA website does not list SPAG either. Do they have any courses for newbies, or is the Act 235 all that they offer?

Are there ANY NRA courses in the Philadelphia area?

TotalNewbie,

I think they offer a 4 hour class on basics of firearm handling. I believe this is a movie they play for you, and then one of the people there watch you shoot at the range. Make sure you are not hitting the ceiling, the target rail or yourself.

ALso, every now and then, they'll advertise about special courses. Not too long ago they had some sort of rifle class.

If you havent found out yet, on the 23rd, they have "SpringField Day", where some super marksman champion shows up and lets people play with all kinds of S.A. weapons. Range time will be free, and regular memberships are half off ($75). Im going to be there, as well as a few other people on this forum.

Yeah, I'll stop by to pick up a membership on the 23rd. (But I'll wait for a course before starting to "play" with any firearms.)

And thank you for the tip on the ammo! I owe you one.

$25.00 per hour or their ammo. Forget it.

I will stick to $30. per year and you can use your own ammo.

Correction

Unless they are jam packed, with a line of people going around the corner, its $25 per day.
