If you carry concealed into the range, you just have to show that your gun is empty when you're done shooting to the range officer, and then when they see it you're free to reload and reholster. No problems there. Let the guy know beforehand you're carrying and you'll have no issues. He said they were concerned about people waking through the store with guns in an unknown state
Can someone clarify this? This makes no sense. If you have a permit to carry, they don't allow you to do so while in their store?

No. One of the rules is when you're done shooting, you tap on the glass and show the guy at the counter/range officer that your gun is empty by not having a mag in the gun and the slide locked back. As soon as you're out, you can load up, holster, and if you desire, conceal.

That's my understanding of the rules and I just reload my mags with my self defense ammo there at the counter and put my safety glasses and hearing protection away. Never had a problem with anyone who works there when I'm doing that.

Ok, but that contradicts what the OP stated and still doesn't make sense.

Let's say I go shooting there. I take a couple guns to shoot, and I take my carry gun too, but don't plan on shooting it. Am I supposed to tell someone I am carrying and unload it before I leave the lanes?

I'd say call the place and find out. I shoot my carry gun when I'm there. I don't bring my gun out at the counter when I'm going in the place. I pay, go to my lane, draw, drop the mag and unload the hollow points and reload whatever I'm going to shoot. When finished, I show the gun is clear and then go out, pack up, reload, and reholster. Then, I'm on my merry way. I might poke around the store a bit or I might just head out.

So you reload your carry weapon in the store area? I would think they'd want you to reload and holster while on the range.

That's not the rules. The rules are you have to show the gun(s) you're shooting on the range as clear (slide locked back without a mag) when you're leaving. That's their rule. They don't have a rule or at least haven't said anything about reloading and holstering a carry gun in the store at the counter.

There seems to be some misunderstanding about CCW and the store policy. If you have a valid CCW, you are allowed to carry your loaded concealed firearm on your person at all times. You may use your CCW firearm on the range. You may only draw your firearm when you are actually on the firing line as there is no handling of any firearms behind the firing line. When you are finished, you may load it while on the range and place it back in its concealed holster before leaving the firing line on the range. Any firearms not carried on your person need to be cased and unloaded while in the store area at all times, regardless if you have a CCW permit or not. Hope this helps clear up any confusion.

To the poster about his M-16: The rule about store personel needing to fire the first mag out of your Class III 9mm M-16 is no longer in effect. All we need to do is observe you fire your first mag downrange.

So, if I bring only my carry gun to the range, do I walk in with it concealed, draw on the line, shoot, reload, holster it, and walk out?

You bring it in concealed, pull it at the lane. Either fire your carry ammo or swap for your range ammo, shoot. When you are done, you have to show the range master that your gun is clear. After you have done so, go back to the lane, re-load with your carry ammo, conceal the weapon and leave the range.

I know it sounds stupid to show the range officer that you're empty and then just go and reload, but that's the policy. Don't bring the weapon out of the range area without it being concealed.

Basically yes you can. You may be asked to show your CCW at the range desk but we do not hold it. We will hold your PA driver's license or ID card until you come out of the range. You will need to sign in and pay at the range desk before you can go in. Eye & ear protection is required. We sell a 5 pack of silhouette or bullseye targets for $1. Once you enter the range and are in the "booth" on the firing line you may draw your firearm to fire. You may load your mags on the table behind the booth but firearms stay in the booth at all times. When you go to leave, you may reload and holster your concealed firearm before you step off the firing line. When you come out of the range, we will return your ID to you. HTH
