Trap will likely be the way to go, I agree. Good point on the .22lr for ground hogs. Dad was a great shot but I don't think he has shot in few years. If it was me I wouldn't worry about it, appleseed has me shooting 1/2 to 3/4 inch groupings at 25 yards with my iron sights. Pesky critters don't stand a chance.
Plus side they have a dog now, I know in my area the moles got lost when we had a dog. Don't know how that effects ground hogs however.
Mom calls the shots with that anyway. Bad guys get all the lead, critters get the love LOL!

Doesnt the state hold premtivity on all gun laws? Meaning a town, municipality, city, etc, can't pass stricter-than-the-state laws? So as long as you're not in a saftey zone and are following other applicable game laws, you can shoot a woodchuck in the middle of downtown Erie?

Municipalities can regulate the discharge of firearms. It is viewed separate from possession and ownership rights.
