The difference is that you aren't on here explaining to all of us why having more than a couple hundred rounds in your house is stupid.

I rarely have spare money. When I do, I buy a box or two of ammo and sit on it instead of shooting it. Now do that every couple months for a number of years and you can build up a nice surplus. Instead of buying thousands of rounds in one sitting when everyone else is doing the same, buy a box or two, or three, when you can, when it is cheap, and put it away.
Some folks just shoot too much, so they buy a lot of ammo. Yeah, I love to shoot too - but it doesn't take thousands of rounds of ammo a year to get proficient. If it does, maybe that person should consider being a cook or medic in the Militia. LOL
And of course there are late bloomers to the lifestyle. Can I fault them? Yes and no. If they just became legal, no. If they just came to their senses, yes.
Smart folks will buy a gun that uses ammo that is commonly available to our military, or the military of countries that may potentially invade the USA. ...9mm, 5.56, 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 12ga, etc. Then you can use THEIR ammo too. One would be even smarter to own a gun that uses the same parts too. Which the AR and AK platforms are tops in the world.
When buying reloading supplies - well, same principles apply. Buy boxes of bullets, primers, casings, or cans of powder when you can. Then sit on them, or load them up and don't shoot as much.
Shooting is like golf - it isn't cheap. But a poor man can play the game if he is smart.
I was late to the game, i only had one gun until about 1 1/2 years ago when i bought my handgun and then almost another year until i got my MN and my SKS in october so the real hard to get ammo i was late to the party on but i would get 3 or 4 boxes of x39 when i could.
Streaker - that new version is so disturbing... wow.....that is the world now !! very interesting...
I only got really into firearms about 2 years ago when I turned 21. I make $9 per hour and have bills to pay. I'm lucky I was able to stock up almost 1000 rounds for my rifle and a spam can for my mosin. But other than that I have nothing and it sucks. I haven't shot since December. The whole suggestion to buy 3 boxes and only shoot two is all well and good except for I usually am scraping up the money for the two boxes :(
Not complaining really, I have other hobbies I can do until I can buy ammo again. But it sucks for us low income people. What ammo I have, I have in case I have to use it. It's not meant for the range.
I was just remembering as I was reading this thread, sitting down at Blackwater after a day of shooting listening to the guys from the Alphabet agencies talking about having 100K, 150K, 250K or more rounds stock piled in the house. There is me, a couple of other civilians and SWAT unit police officers looking at each other like these guys were F-ing nuts. NOT ANY MORE!!!!!
After this last BS, when the ammo starts piling up in the warehouses and prices start getting back to normal I'm going on a major acquisition project over the next few years. Not just loaded ammunition but 50% will be spent components for reloading.
its short sighted to plan on picking up ammo on the way to the range... it astounds me how many people do this.
