I made it there Thursday for about a half an hour, 1100-1130. Everything looked in good shape, clean. I was the only one on the pistol range, only 2 guys shooting one LOUD rifle on the other side.
Had a nice shoot.

went there this morning at 8 stayed about an hr. was my first time going there. i was only one at pistol side and there was one guy on rifle side. overall i like the range i had a blast. i'll be going there more often!
Who do I have to bitch at to get the access gate opened for the road next to the range. There still game in season that needs hunting and all that property is untouched. There's no reason that gate should be closed.
Was at the range yesterday at approximately 1300 to 1400 hours. Couple of folks on the rifle range where I was. Shot my AR for the first time for a little bit, then went over to the pistol side and put a few rounds down range. Quiet, not jack asses, and everyone was following regulations.
maybe this number?

maybe it's part of a "get fit PA" program, walk around it. or they don't feel it's much of a road, don't want to spend all day hauling stuck vehicles out of the area.
I think it's mostly due to them not wanting to patrol all of Seven Mile Road all summer for people who want to try to grow pot on the SGL or cook up meth in propane tanks or just get drunk and shag. Plus it would help cut down on poaching at night far back in. Plus, it gives the critters a couple months to chill out.
It is unfortunate that it isn't open all summer long as there are some nice areas back there to call for coyote and there's plenty of blueberries that are going unpicked. I can, however, understand if this is why they do it.
...i understand those reasons as well, i'd still call and try to get a reason.
maybe a consideration, mountain bike, bike your way in/out.
the road is now open
Had 2 Sunday afternoon shooting gatherings in the last 4 weeks. All went well, no scary moments, no serious rule infractions, not too crowded. Seems like the permitting process is thinning out the miscreants. Weather couldn't have been better.
One thing to mention, had to inform someone that they cannot shoot at a cardboard box they brought and placed on the ground as a target on the 50yd side of the pistol range. Other than that no problems/issues. Everyone safe and cordial.
We all had a great time.
Just noticed a double post above. Apologies for that. This site gives me fits sometimes. Takes forever to receive acknowledgement that a post went through. Even now I have to log back in everytime I hit the back button, even if I'm several pages past the login page. Maybe it's just me....
went to the range today,11:00 AM there were many hunters sighting there rifles when i got there,i was about to leave and all at once 1/2 of them left! I parked my car and grabbed a bench @ 50 yards and checked the scope on my .308 bolt action savage, and put a few 7.62x51 rounds through the CAI G3 clone! nice weather, good shootin and all around good range trip! :)
does anyone know what happens out there when it snows?
:( i wont have ammo till after christmas.
Everything turns white. :p Seriously though, I have been shooting there, and at the old range in Gouldsboro many times with snow on the ground. Watch where you walk, especially behind the firing line. Last winter I was walking across a spot I thought was flat and went up past my knee when I stepped into a ditch behind the pistol range. Worse than snow is ice. That makes it really tough getting around. And if you fall and you are the only one up there, it could be a while before anyone finds you.
thanks for the info.
so 4WD, chains and such?
they plow the range road at all?
All that depends on when you go relative to the snow falling. The ground is fairly level back there (I don't know if you have been there before) and the road is reasonably well maintained. Four wheel drive is never a bad idea in the Poconos, and front wheel drive is usually sufficient, but if you have decent tires, you should not need chains. The range parking lot has been plowed when I have been there, but you are going to need boots to get to the target backers.
Keep in mind that you are far enough off the road that no one will see or hear you if you get hurt or stuck and need to yell for help. Firing off your gun won't help. People expect to hear gunfire coming from the range. Going alone is a real bad idea. I have no idea what cell phone reception is like, although my phone usually does not do well in the area. If you are going in the winter, plan as if you might have to be there for a while. People who venture out in that area without proper clothing are just asking to be smacked down by the elements. If you want to see how quickly things can go very bad, do a search on son of the revolution, and read his story of falling and breaking his leg last winter while walking from his neighbor's house to his own.
i'll see if maybe someone from here wants to meet that day :P nobody in my house will brave the temps.
Hi All,
Can somebody tell me exactly where the range is? Also, if I want to bring my 12 year old son with me to do some .22 target shooting, would I have to buy two permits?
Thanks,
Steve
see older posts for directions even GPS coordinates.
familiarize yourself with regulations on the site you buy the permit on. (which includes guest and child information)

and quick answer, as far as i understand the wording, due to your child's age, you can bring them as well as a guest.
regardless of accuracy of above, your allowed 1 guest.
im in a good mood today. go to google, maps, directions, enter your address in A and 41.170538,-75.443641 in B
there's directions to the range.
I get down there pretty regularly. If not once a week then atleast every other week. Most of the people are decent and follow regulations. There are quite a few who are straight up scumbags and likely have no business being there, possibly even being prohibited persons.
I would suggest going with another if at all possible, I've seen enough to make me pack up in a hurry and depart before I caught a stray round or was the victim of an attempted robbery.
As far as winter, I do just fine with my FWD car. Plowing is inconsistant at best for the main road and the parking area. Absolutely wear appropriate cold weather gear as it is a trecherous area when it comes to weather conditions. I was there the other day, and left after only 30 minutes as the wind is a constant barrage against your body. This time of year you really need to dress the part. I get full cell phone coverage up there with ATT fwiw.
PennsyPlinker... here is a pic you posted when the range first opened! this will give him an idea what it looks like in the winter up there! and here is a picture of me at the entrance of the range, and to midlifecrisses if your coming from rt 380 you make a right where my GMC is parked.
I'll be going there Monday to shoot my new Stag AR for the first time. Looks like a really nice place to shoot. Some of these horror stories on this thread about strange people and fear of armed robberies leaves me hoping that there will be a few others at this place lol
armed robberies? never heard anything like that and i am there almost every weekend.
i'm going to a friend's huge farm to shoot, instead of driving all the way up to the range.
but next monday i might go up.
i try to get up there when it opens @8am and i stay for around an hour +1/2
drive a blue suzuki hatchback with a union jack front plate. got logo's on my 1/4 panels.
if anyone see's me, feel free to say hi.
glad to add one to the party, just follow the rules and be safe.
and always bring your ear plugs, never know when one of us will show up with a big gun. :D
oh, and tomorrow it's looking cold. ;) everyone bundle up.
Edit: went to range round noonish, left round 1:30, it was damn cold and flurrying.
saw a shotty @ the 25yrd, then what looked like an AR-15 @ the 25yrd.
some muzzleloaders and other various toys.
pistol was crowded for a long time, rifle was pretty clear except @ one point all the 50's were taken up.
managed to jam up my 91/30 hands too cold to load ammo properly.
and man, the range is looking filthy... it's sad, i fired 140rnds and left with more than i shot, didnt even need to put up a target @ rifle because it was already full of shot up ones.
and not many people abide by the magazine caps. typical waiting to call a clear while people dump 10+rounds down the lane.
Had a great day at the range today, the place was very easy to find. Pretty much had the rifle range to ourselves after 1:30. The people there were friendly and very courteous as well. Yes there were lots of shell casings on the ground, it's too bad that people are too lazy to pick them up.
Went up today later in the afternoon and ran into a couple of the regulars. Quiet as usual.
shanes, i believe we were there at the same time. i was in the far left lane of the 50, i believe you were down at the hundred at the time.
maybe not, but you look familiar.
there was a cop there today, big guy, was cool but damn he's gotta stop checking his weapon like he was. never look down the barrel unless it's stripped down. check from the chamber. hell, if there is a reason to look down the barrel, it probably requires field stripping to resolve the issue imo.
pic obviously not from today, it was way too cold for that. but that's my gear and me.
Edit: added my car.
I was up there as well yesterday. Saw fallenleaders car, but didn't know it until I read the thread above just now. I was on the rifle range, first shooting 50yd and then 100yd. with the s&w M&P 15 sport and the saiga 7.62. First time shooting either one and I thought I did pretty well with iron sights. The saiga fit me better but I did better with the 223, especially at 100 yd. Just a few guys over there with muzzle loaders. Damn cold though. Not much brass over at the rifle side. Picked mine up for a friend who reloads. Overall, a good day. Happy New Year!
Took my youngest son Sunday to shoot his recently purchased Mosin, saw alot of brass near the 50m rifle, also some cans hanging from the target frames and alot of used targets. I policed my brass and targets on my lane but next time I think I will bring a trash bag down range for the old targets on the frames that are not being used. There was a great deal of mud on the walk down range even on the fine gravel. Note to self must not wear deep soled (tread) boots next time. :)
I saw an awful lot of shotgun sabots and shells on the rifle side. I didn't know shotguns were allowed there. There was even a bunch of shotgun shells down by the 50 yd targets.
there was also a lot of shotgun shells @ the 10yrd about halfway down the range, 5yrd.
yeah... they need officers out there more.
slugs are allowed only. and not in the pistol area.
the pistol area is comprised of the 10 and 25yrd lanes and is for handguns only.
rifle lanes are limited to 3 rounds, pistol to 6.
not many seem to understand those simple reg's, which is why you're hard pressed to get a target down lane if there are other shooters :(
Edit: generally i'm against government involvement, but i'm also wary of telling a guy "hey you with the shotgun @ the 10yrd, your breaking the rules" :/ don't see it having a good resolution.
I remember the car, I had the grey bimmer with ski racks parked by the far end. Yeah people are crazy, from the military days, that barrel has to be pointed down range when at all possible. Overall it was a good few hours there, hoping to get back in 2 weeks.
Yes, I saw the Monster energy drink can, could help but laugh.
Could be worse lol

These guys were at a Pa. Range, wonder where?
...ugh, had those guys been at the range, i think there may have been a unanimous armed movement against them.
who do we call when we see a serious offender?
northeast region game commission (570) 675-1143 ? ghost busters?
Ditto - where in the rules does it limit long guns to certain distances? I don't see anything wrong with shooting a carbine or HD shotgun offhand at shorter distances; most self-defense shootings are going to be close anyway. 10 yards or 100, dirt berms don't give a shit.
