Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
Hey i know alot of us have iphones, driods, whatever the hot new mobile device is. And most of us are on here using our phones.
Tapatalk is an app that you can use to access all the message boards you frequent and still have all the capabilities of using the web (private messages etc...)

I personally think it would be great if we could get this activated for the site.
Re: Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
Love this idea, I'll discuss this with Dan.
This isn't the first time a request for mobile device support of PAFOA has been made, but in the past it's been denied because, quite frankly, we didn't have the time to make the changes necessary to roll it out. If this is literally a turnkey, "drop in and go" solution, that might change the situation.
Re: Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
AFAIK Tapatalk is just a forum plug in. I could probably get you in touch with the admin for a forum that uses it if you need to talk to someone that knows all about it.
Re: Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
This has been discussed twice in the past:
http://forum.pafoa.org/support-sugge...iewer-app.html
http://forum.pafoa.org/support-sugge...-tapatalk.html
PAFOA is currently in a code freeze and we are not installing any plugins. Even outside of that I am very wary of installing plugins due to their generally unstable nature and the complications they bring into running and upgrading large forums.
We can reevaluate in a few months but at this point in time mobile browsing is unfortunately not high on the priority list.
Re: Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
It's actually pretty great.. all you do is drop the tapatalk folder into your forum root and go. There is no plugin to install so it won't modify your database or existing files.
I have it 'installed' on a number of sites - since there aren't many gun sites on there yet it certainly helps get the word out also..
I hear ya though dan about plugins..

A few questions:
- It doesn't actually require you to install a plugin into vBulletin?
- If so, I assume then you must provide it with credentials for direct access to the vBulletin database? (Might be a good thing, could give it read-only credentials)
- What's it's security track record?
- Can it run in a distributed environment, eg. if we have multiple web-servers?
Re: Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
I have an iPhone 4 and access this forum in the safari browser, which works great. I don't see the need for anything else, imo.
Re: Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
Don't mean to grave dig this thread but I just got Tapatalk on my EVO and am liking it alot. I'd love for PAFOA to support it. The only other forum I use it for is a gaming community with over 30k members. Granted they don't all use tapatalk, they haven't had any trouble with it at all.

1 - No plugins - upload the files into a seperate folder
2. It probably reads them from includes/config.php - but you don't fill out or config anything..
3. Could not tell you - but I have not heard of anyone having security issues
4. not sure about multiple servers..

there's a forum where you can probably get better answers than mine ;)
Re: Activating Tapatalk for the Forum
Any more thought or discussion on this topic? I've been using Tapatalk everywhere I can, and it is an improvement over mobile browsers.
