I AM LOOKIN INTO GETTIN A GLOCK 22 OR A SPRINGFIELD XD 40. I WAS SET ON A GLOCK TILL I HELD THE XD AND IT FELT PRETTY GOOD BUT SOMETHING IS STILL MAKING ME LEAN TOWARD THE GLOCK. I DID NOT GET TO SHOOT THE XD YET BUT I AM GOIN TO TRY TO TOMORROW. I HAVE SHOT GLOCKS BEFORE AND I THINK THEY ARE GREAT GUNS.I AM JUS LOOKING FOR SOME OPINIONS / COMMENTS. ANY KINDA OF INFO ANYONE GOT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRICIATED.

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
XD
I like the additional grip safety. Glocks trigger pull is shorter but a little less crisp. Other than that they isn't that much of a difference.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
either one is great, however make sure the xd is new. i'm not sure when but the new xd's have the new finish either melanite or tennifer not sure i get them confused. i used to have one and the old finish was just blue'd. it was bad leave it in the truck overnight and it would have a layer of rust. springfield will refinish if it's a problem. me i just traded mine for an m&p.

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
S!
(forgive grammar) I myself am at a loss about all the hubbub-bub. I recently looked into the Springfield just to see what all the hubbub was about. Without benefit of being a gun-guru or a gun writer..the first thing I didn't like was the full lenght grip..ok..now I see they made a shorter version. I love my Springfield 1911 but the XP appears as a GLOCK clone(lets get in on that). Cool feature to me the non-pro. Xtra grip safety and the "gee-look it IS loaded feature". I don't know-maybe it fuctions better or is cheaper or comes with a bigger mag..or comes in non-glock calibers. I'm not buying. Course-I already gave my money to Springfield Custom shop and tell Kathy I said "hi". Gots to tell..that was as sweet as dealing with S&W! Very nice service..one rep throughout the transaction. I didn't take S&W deal but that was a special circumstance and I won't repeat that here. They went out on the ledge and I appreciate that! WTG Springfield and S&W

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
I'd go for an XD. Its a heck of a lot less fugly than any Glock you'll ever see. Plus, it lives up to the Glock's torture tests.
You cant go wrong with an XD.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
glock, alot better aftermarket and glock will fix anything on it for the cost of shipping
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
I bought the XD Service in 45ACP. It just fit my hand better. To me the real difference is in personal fit. Yes, I like the trigger on the XD better, it's crisper. I still sent it off for a trigger job to lighten it up. The more I shoot it, the better the trigger becomes. The down side is it absolutley, positively will not feed LSWC bullets. It does feed moly, plated, or jacketed anything. I hear Glock says don't shoot bare lead bullet in their's either.
My advice is pick the one that fits your hand better.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
In terms of reliability they're identical.
The Glock has a longer track record, and more (and cheaper) aftermarket parts and magazines.
The XD trigger is much better, the grip is more ergonomic, and the stock sights are nice and solid. They seem a bit more accurate than the Glocks do.
I've owned quite a few Glocks over the years. I sold most of them when I bought my first XD.
In my opinion, the XD is far, far superior -- not because the people who designed it are geniuses or anything, it's just that the Glock hasn't really been updated since it was designed (adding finger grooves and light rail are meaningless to me). The XD took all of the good stuff from the Glock, none of the bad, and added a few cool extras.
I like to think that the XD is what the Glock would be if it had been designed in the late 1990s.

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
My answer is yes, as they are both the correct answer. Hold...might I say fondle  both and see which feels "right" to you. Nobody else can tell you that answer.

Exactly. I was torn between a G26 and XD9-SC until I was able to hold both of them side by side. The XD just fit my hand better. Definitely fondle both of them...fondling guns is good...mmm...

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
Glock hands down.
Any monkey can detail strip one, they are reliable as hell, and the finish beats the XD in my opinion. I liked the XD's until I actually held one.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
The Glock and XD, while they look similar, are very different beasts.
The XD has a grip angle/bore axis very close to the 1911 style platform. The Glock causes you to torque the wrists forward more to bring the sights into alignment. This can result in less felt recoil, but is very uncomfortable for some shooters.
The XD is single action. The striker is fully cocked which is why the trigger break is a bit cleaner. The Glocks striker is partly cocked with the trigger pull. Despite this, a Glock can be brought down to about 3.5lbs for $20 worth of aftermarket parts. Glock has a much larger aftermaket base.
In my experience, the XD tends to be a bit more accurate....and it has an external safety (grip safety).
The XD is safe to shoot large quantities of lead rounds out of while the Glock is not, due to the polygonal rifling. A high quality aftermarket barrel for a Glock that will shoot lead can be had for $100.
Both are worthy competition pistols. The Glock and XD (#1 and #2 respectively) were the reigning choice of USPSA shooters this year at the Nationals. Rob Leatham won Production division with a XD. David Sevigny won Limited division with a Glock.
Never heard of an XD having a KB. Glocks....well........
I'd buy whichever one I shot best with, not which one feels best......unless you enjoy carrying them more than shooting them.
Both are very modern firearms. Of course the fastest gun on the planet really hasn't been changed much.....since 1911.

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
I went throught the same thing a few months ago. I was set on getting a Glock, but ounce i held both of them went with the XD. Great gun never a problem so far.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
XD, IMHO they are more accurate.
My friend groups better with my XD then his own Glock.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
I've never shot a Glock but I love my XD-40. If I had to do it over again, I might go with a .45 but I still love the little bastard. Firing pin indicator and loaded chamber indicator are the greatest features I could have hoped for.
Very happy with my purchase.

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
What kills me about the XD is when it was the HS-2000 you could buy them all day for $250.00. Then Springfield got involved, jacked up the price $200.00+ to pay for all their advertising, now it's the greatest thing since Monday Night Football. Bill T.

Tell me about it. I saw a used XD9 listed for about $100 over what I bought mine for new. Made me want to sell it and get my USP I have been drooling over :)

I hear thats not really the case, or at least its not as simple as that. The HS-2000 and the XD are different enough to warrant the extra $200. Finish, and quality of parts being what comes to mind.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
Finish is the main beef against other XD models, which was fixed with the XD45. I own a XD45 would not hesitate to recommend one to anybody looking for a .45 Great pistol. As to if its better then a Glock, well, of course it is.....:p

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
I have Glocks and I have an XD. For me the XD just fits my hand better. That doesn't mean that I will be getting rid of the Glocks, I intend to keep them all. It is all personal preference. I know guys who won't shoot anything but Glocks and I know guys who won't shoot Glocks ever. Try the both and buy what feels good and shoots well for you.

There made in the same place, the exact same way. Springfield throws in "Gear", which is basicly a cheap plastic holster and mag carrier, and an equally cheap plastic carrying case. The XD is the most promoted pistol in the world. They have to pay for all that advertising somehow. It's like Remington putting their name on Chales Daly Mausers, and jacking up the price. Same gun, different name. Bill T.

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
Not quite the same as they were as the 2000. The biggest difference is that SA gives you a lifetime warranty, that wasn't the case in the past and since it is a major US manufacturer backing up the weapon you WILL pay for that kind of warranty.
Now, billt, we get it, you don't like the idea of paying more for them. Such is life in a capitalist society.

Do what I do, buy your guns from here, www.galleryofguns.com and you'll get a lifetime free REPLACEMENT warranty with every one you buy, regardless of brand. I've already used it on a new Ruger I bought, which promptly broke after only 80 rounds. I had a brand new one in my hands the very next day. Free of charge. Can Springfield do that?

This is happening to the locking block on a lot of XD's.

If yours is ported, keep an eye on the top of the slide. This is happening to an alarming amount of them. That warranty is looking better and better! Bill T.

What do you mean? The Glock didn't fail once in the video.
Although that was the biggest waste of ammo ever.
I haven't read much of this thread. My vote is Glock, because that's what I've been carrying for a while. It works for me.

After the last shot in the video is fired, his finger is still squeezing the trigger but the slide is not locked back. He then lets go of the trigger and looks at the pistol, like WTF? Either it fired the last round and didnt lock the slide, or it didnt eject or feed a round...either way something ran afoul.

It's hard to tell if there's still a round in the mag when he pulls it out. But 2 seconds after that it saiy "failed meltdown, Glock still runs perfect". I guess they know more aboud what happened in the video, than we do.

Either way, very cool video

I would love to see any other auto pistol digest almost 300 rounds in well under 2 minutes. Bill T.

Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
Go for the Glock.
Grip safety's are superfluous, they serve no purpose. Just ask john browning
The trigger on the Glock is better for combat shooting. The reset is way shorter.
The grip ergonomics on the glock are superior, people who complain about it are used to the imperfect grip angle that is the 1911. The grip angle on the glock is superior for recoil control an gun handling. After you get used to the glock, everything else points low.
The bore axis on the glock is lower.
I've seen way to many xd's have malfunctions. They usually occur right after someone heralds the merits of their XD over my glock. It's unavoidable. More parts = more shit to go wrong.

The drum mag was clearly empty. Who the hell knows if that drum mag even locks the slide back after the last shot. I don't own one.

Hardcore glock lover eh?
What would you say makes a grip safety to useless? I find the grip safety to be a nice feature. It requires you to take a proper grip on the firearm in order to pull the trigger, without adding another step of thumbing off a safety.
Many would contend that the 1911 grip angle is the naturally perfect grip angle, and that the glock's grip is hideous.
From experience, the difference in bore axis does not affect performance on a substantial level.
Everyone lays claim to their firearm being the most reliable, never malfunctioning, etc., but in general, a quality firearm will go bang every time you pull the trigger.
Everything comes down to personal preference and the way an individual firearm handles for you.

Exactomundo! I have 3 simple steps to end the Glock or XD dilema for you.
1. Get off your computer and get out to the range.
2. Talk to people and (ask if you need to) shoot both models you are interested in.
3. Pick the one that is best for YOU
Yahoos on the internet (me included) can tell you I like this or I like that but only YOU can tell yourself what you like, what fits your hand best, what catches your eye or what you shoot best.
-
Re: GLOCK OR SPRINGFIELD XD
crap. After reading the posts..now I wanna XP to share my home with my Glock. "I'll be the judge!" Shhh..wife might be listnin.

Not a blind follower of any cult or religion. I've simply tried them all and found the light. Now come, follow me into the light. :D
And to whoever tossed me some bad rep for giving my opinion in a thread that asked for my opinion: my Glock doesn't make me bulletproof, i have Kevlar for that.
