Glock Gen 4 backstraps not included in my case with purchase?
Bought a Glock G17 last week at Allegheny Trade, and the backstraps weren't included in the case. Didn't think anything of it until I was reading up on the gun today and realized they shoould've been, along with a small, screwdriver-type tool to remove them. Should I contact Glock or Allegheny?

I'd give the dealer a chance to make it right, they might have had them out of the case for some reason and forgot to put them back in. If they don't make it right, contact glock.

Agreed, it's quite possible the little plastic bag with them in it is sitting on a shelf at the dealer.
The bag contains the two backstraps, a cheap plastic pin-pusher tool (couldn't really call it a screwdriver), and the longer pin needed to retain the optional backstraps.
(You'll eventually want to pick up a real Glock disassembly tool or 3/32" punch anyway, so you'll probably never use the cheap tool that comes with it.)
Re: Glock Gen 4 backstraps not included in my case with purchase?
Are you sure you bought a Gen4 G17 and not a previous generation? Did you buy it new?
If yes to both, I'd take it back to the dealer.

Son of a bitch... I specifically asked the guy when I bought it if it was a Gen 4 and he said it was. Upon closer examination, I can see it isn't. I didn't really know a whole lot about the differences between generations when I went in, or I probably would've noticed it there. Guess I'll call tomorrow. Any chance I'll get a refund?

You already did the paperwork on it, right?
If you don't know the difference, what's the problem with the one you have?
There have been a number of issues with the Gen 4 9mm's...there is nothing wrong with getting a 3rd Gen or RTF. I'm not going near the 4th Gen 9mm's for another year or better.
Re: Glock Gen 4 backstraps not included in my case with purchase?
If you like what you bought and agreed to the deal why be upset? Did you get what you wanted, it seems so. Was the price right, probably. Did the pistol you bought work in your hand without the extra backstraps, I am guessing yet.
Generation 3, 4 or 2800... you touched, fondled and played with the one you bought. Enjoy it and spend some more cash on lots of ammo...
Re: Glock Gen 4 backstraps not included in my case with purchase?
It should say Gen 4 on the box label and on the slide. The differences are the grip texture, backstraps, larger reversible magazine catch, recoil spring assembly, slight difference in the receiver internal design and trigger assembly parts, slide serrations and larger hole for the RSA, and the magazine and magazine follower.
Personally if I specifically asked for a Gen 4, I'd take it back, but that's just me. There's certainly nothing wrong with the Gen 3's though.

A number of issues ??
Only one I'm aware of is some people complaining they are over sprung since they carry the 40 cal recoil spring.
Glock has since made a differant recoil assembly for the 9mm's.
My Gen4 G19 has been flawless and thats with the original recoil assembly.
What are the other issues you speak of ?

Inconsistent ejection, and recoil spring assemblies binding up in recoil and locking the guns up.
There have been multiple changes to the Gen 4 17 design since it first hit the market, including variations in the slide, recoil spring assembly, and who knows what else.
