I don't yet know if it is all areas but Santander Bank is laying off people in Reading. It started this morning with absolutely no warning, or even rumors.
"Here is your box - get the .... out." That sux.

The company hasn't been looking good for a few years. They were Sovereign Bank...then bought out by the Swedes (Santander).
They sold off a ton of mortgages a couple years ago, not sure if that's a sign of sucesss/failure or just regular business practice but it's a pain in the butt for customers having to change without any say in it.
They had naming rights to Santander Bank Stadium in York (Revolution baseball), just lost it to Peoples Bank this year.

It wasn't too long ago when a few co workers were going on about the incentives that Santander was offering people to open up accounts with them.
If you guys are not into branch banks.. check out Simple bank. I use them for some stuff.. very cool.
Can't stand Santander; if I didn't have a loan with them (originally issued by Sovereign), I would've dropped them like a hot rock a few years ago.
They deal a lot with challenged credit customers especially in the auto loan industry. They have a company called road loans that it is basically a loan shark company.
I work with them daily and they are great to get people that wouldn't otherwise be approved, but they APR is higher then most.
Wow, that's a bummer.
