my god...I need to try one!
KILL IT WITH FIRE!
If you do make your own flamethrower, please, for the good of humanity, make sure you video your first use. Youtube needs a good new video of someone blowing themselves up.
"FLAMETHROWER RENTAL"
"DANGER; FLAMMABLE"
WTF????

Does that really need to be said?
Here. We will rent you a device that shoots fire out of it, Oh, and by the way, be careful, its flammable.
The masses are asses
Some dude from the innernets has already beat you to it bro, and apparently somewhat safely with impressive results.

Lots o' luck and don't forget to get some asbestos underwear.;)
There are a lot of home made "flamethrowers", just check youtube. most of them involve supersoakers and big lighter. this kid's design is slightly beefier, but I wouldn't trust it. PVC is not the best thing for holding pressure. it can weaken over time and rupture.
you'd be much safer with a spring return or deadman valve that shuts itself off if you let go. w/ a ball valve, if you open the valve and drop the unit, it will continue to fire.
also, with this unit, the pressure is going to decrease as you fire. if you get to the end of your pressure supply and there's still fuel left, it's going to trickle out, possibly right in front of you. w/ a real flamethrower, the pressure is kept constant through a regulator.
