That is correct, I'll edit my original post to reflect that. Thanks for the catch JB.

Do I need to go to a UPS or FedEx store to ship a handgun or can I just have them come and pick it up at my house?

Most Fedex and UPS stores wont ship any sort of gun. I doubt they will pick it up either. You will most likely need to go to the actual depot of either carrier.

In this case it is best to physically take it to a Hub to do the shipping, although I have received guns from people that did ship from their home. My concern would be if it were lost, and you didn't do it their way, they could possibly deny any claims.
There is a thread in Ammo and Reloading concerning this subject. UPS "Stores" are more like a franchise and they can set their own rules.

If you go to the UPS web site you should be able to find both where the hubs are and the Customer Service Centers (find the nearest CSC first, it's probably closer).

thats what i did but all it lists is
drop boxes
UPS store
Alliance location
customer center
authorized shipping outlet
Nothing about a hub, so I guess I just use the customer center?
so the UPS stores won't ship it?

You'll want to look at the customer centers. Even the UPS Stores that have the big UPS logo on the front of the store are typically owned/operated by non-UPS personnel. I've not found one yet that would ship gun stuff if you tell them that is what is in the package. Many won't even do 3rd party billing (our company has a UPS account, and when I have to ship something back to the main plant they won't do it using our account number. I actually have to pay for it and then put it on my expense account.)
Now this doesn't mean that some of them won't ship gun stuff for you, but I haven't found one yet. For me, the hub and customer service center are at the same place about a mile from my home so it's easy for me.
Re: Shipping Answers (to questions that are often asked)
Went to UPS and they said they aren't accepting any packages for shipment today. Went to Fedex and they took it. Cost me $101.69 to ship it with $1500 insurance.
Without insurance it was $86 and some change. Is that normal? I mean, I knew it wasn't going to be cheap to ship, but that's about twice what I expected. Seems excessively expensive.

Can C&R ffl holders ship handguns via USPS ?
