Re: my training experiance
great post shawn.
now ya gotta get yerself an airsoft pistol so we can do force on force training. ;)
it's another eye opener to say the least. and it's cheap.
Re: my training experiance
Was a good read and i fully understand everything your covering here. Its good to see at least most people are trying to take formal training and understanding at at least trying out all different views of shooting and guns.
Re: my training experiance
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and observations.
I think the reason some people don't seek training is because they don't really want to know that they don't know enough. But that's a whole other thread.
Can't wait for the eye opener that the weapon retention class will surely be.

I know that was true to some degree for me.
But there was also a disconnect between me carrying a gun, and having a full and honest appraisal of why.
I have had this conversation with a few people lately. Time and again I have come say that I dont carry a gun just in case I have to do some impromptu target shooting. I carry a gun for self defense.
That has a lot of weight. Often we graze right over what that means. It means that one day I very well may need to use the pistol to save a life. There is nothing more sacred in this world than life. And so there may be no more important thing I ever do.
By default the gun will be the tool I will need when I least expect I might need it. If I knew I was going into something that could get me or my loved ones killed I wouldnt have gone. So if I need it, I will need it FAST, I wont have time to figure out what to do then. Those desicions must already be made.
I spent a long time walking around with a tool made for a job I didnt know how to do, and hadnt honestly admitted just what that job was and how important it could be.
Re: my training experiance
Great post! It deserves to be said again, loved it.
It hit home pretty solidly, I started very nearly the same. I picked up a gun, and a LTCF and carried only now and again with this or that holster and mostly plinked.
Finding PAFOA and OCDO has opened a new world.
And many thanks for posting your training experiences. I have been debating getting some. I will do that now. I think Ill look into the ones you mentioned actually.

My hat's off to you -- that's one of the most commendable decisions anyone can make.
A shame so few do. You see so many guys with 11 guns in the safe and 0 training hours logged. When you ask why no training -- "can't afford it." At that point I OD on cognitive dissonance.
Re: my training experiance
Very nice post!
You learned that there is allot more to it than just strapping on a gun.
Too many people think that just because they have a LTCF, a handgun, and they can shoot paper targets efficiently, they are prepared. Fortunately for them, they will probably never have to employ their sidearm for self-defense.
Don't strap it, unless you can hack it! (I just made that up) :D
