I don't know what happened in this particular situation, other than the above picture. However, if I've got kids in the house and some loony tune is outside, with a shouldered rifle, dialing in on said house, he's plant food, without hesitation. Consequences be damned.

Your self defense rights always hinge on "do I have a reasonable fear of imminent death or serious bodily injury." With him pointing the rifle at the house, that a pretty provocative act especially if he's in the yard. I wouldn't be shooting but I'd be prepared to.
