Re: ARE THERE MOUNTAIN LIONS IN PA?
The PGC official stance on mountain lions in the state is "There are no breeding pairs".
I have a copy of the actual report from the PGC on mountain lions in PA, just need to find it.

I am no expert but I think the nonexistent beast is on the protected list. Hope someone on here knows the answer before you go to the press.

Absotively, not just protected, but endangered in the North East. You're talking Federal crime if you kill one that didn't trying to kill you first.

I agree but if you see one you can't shoot it and they don't believe pictures

not sure any of the actual lawyers on this board would like having me lumped in with them, though...
Personally, I'd be more worried about being lumped in with the lawyers.

My parents own a place in Somerset and I have been traveling to that are since I was 13. I know a lot of the locals and I too heard this several (4-6) years ago. They, PGC, will deny it though as they do not want the locals out hunting them to protect thier animals (cows, sheep, horses). I had heard from my cousin that someone up their shot one and actually had it stuffed and another friend who has a farm in the area told me she has seen them crossing the field by her house. Take it for what it's worth. I tend to believe them.
Re: ARE THERE MOUNTAIN LIONS IN PA?
I think they're here... The PGC has nothing to gain from saying mountain lions exist in PA... They wouldn't get any extra funding really, but would have to spend money studying and tracking them. Same as the elk they re-introduced and have been tracking ever since... Things like that costs money, and they can't afford to spend another dime... lol
