A (Very) Positive Open Carry Experience
So I'm down in Oakland (One of Pittsburgh's Neighborhoods - right where U. Pitt, CMU and Carlow are) with a couple friends going to one of our regular hang outs, "Mad Mex" (Corner of Bates and Atwood), for some Half Price Burritos...
As always, I'm OC'ing, and when we go to sit down, a woman comes bustling up to the table looking for her hat. Now, Mad Mex is a bar, and it's dark, so I whip out my flashlight and shine it around so she can find her hat - at the same time I do this, I notice she's staring at my sidearm.
My first thought (And both of my friend's) is "Oh shit, she's gonna make a big deal out of my weapon..." but no, instead she says:
"You carry a Flashlight AND a Gun! I have to introduce you to my daughter!"
All three of our jaws just DROPPED. Completely the opposite reaction that we were expecting!
Also, had an opportunity to give one of PA Patriot's fliers to the server, 'cause he was curious about the gun laws in PA.
All in all, a very positive experience!
Re: A (Very) Positive Open Carry Experience
Yeah, I saw her staring at your firearm and was thinking "Oh God, this is going to suck" knowing how many people are towards OC'ing. I thought she was going to flip out really hardcore.
Re: A (Very) Positive Open Carry Experience
I don't know about PA OCing but I have been OCing in New Mexico for quite a while. The attitude I have seen has generally been more positive than negative, which surprised me. Just remember that every time you OC you have the potential to educate someone and potentially turn them in a gun rights activist...
Re: A (Very) Positive Open Carry Experience
so ya get the number for her daughter ?;)
Re: A (Very) Positive Open Carry Experience
my wife works at CMU and i used to go over there, but haven't been in a while. MadMex that is.

Great point. We should all keep this in mind.

Her daughter is either 7, or is into rape (by authority) fantasies. Tread carefully!
So do tell!

What?
No swat
No PSP
No ambulances
No National Guard
No mass hysteria
No news coverage
:D
Hummm, I might O/C myself ;)
Re: A (Very) Positive Open Carry Experience
I'm suprised that that went well for you in Oakland... Congrats on a positve experience.

I OC in Oakland on a regular basis... Mad Mex, Fuel 'n Fuddle, The O, Joe Mama's, Jimmy John's, and back when I was an active student at UPMC after class on Forbes Ave. Never once have I had a problem down there :)
