Non Resident LCTF Renewal
I live in southern Delaware and my PA non resident lctf is about to expire.
It is from Centre County. I see from reading posts here that I must appear in person to renew.
Do I have to go back to Centre County, or can I renew anywhere?
Are there any Counties reasonably close to DE that would issue with one visit?

As long as you have your DE carry license or permit to carry you can renew at any sheriff's office in PA. Of course, some do not like to issue to non-res (even tho they are supposed to by law), so hopefully someone from that area will let you know here. Or just call the PA sheriffs closest to you and see which ones will.
Re: Non Resident LCTF Renewal
Sheriff Denny Nau in Centre County has traditionally been the most "friendly" when it comes to issuing non-resident LTCF permits. I believe that to still be the case, however, according to his website:
http://www.co.centre.pa.us/211.asp
Quote:
License to Carry Firearms Applications Via Mail Discontinued as of March 31, 2011
As the result of requirements of Act 66, 2005, applicants must have their photo and signature captured electronically into our system. At this time there is no manner to complete these requirements without the personal appearance of the applicant.
Therefore we will not be able to process any mailed applications received after March 31, 2011.
Now that LTCF applications (resident and non-resident) must be applied for in person, you'll either need to drive there or some other county that might be closer to your home to apply. And as HiredGoon said, make sure you have your DE permit, because PA sheriffs by law cannot issue non-resident LTCFs to anyone who can't obtain a permit in their home state.
I can't speak for non-residents, but Berks County is very permit friendly to residents, and they're probably one of the closest places to DE that you might have a shot at getting a non-resident LTCF without too much hassle. All the counties closer to you (Delaware, Philly, Chester, Bucks, Montgomery) will require more time, more money, and I'd wager a bet will flatly deny non-residents.
Berks will issue on-the-spot to residents at one of 5 locations in the county; they have a roving permit unit that sets up shop at a different location each day of the 3rd week of every month to make it easier for residents to apply. If you can't make it on the 3rd week, you can always apply at the their office in Reading (the county seat). However, I'm not sure what they'll do for non-residents; I would check out their website and maybe call them so that you're not wasting your time.
Here's the website info:

Good Luck!
Re: Non Resident LCTF Renewal
Thanks for the help.
I really only need to add Georgia to the states covered by my DE license, so I guess I'll just spend the money for a FL license.
Re: Non Resident LCTF Renewal
Lancaster County is known for non-resident issuance...even if they do add a few extra illegal requirements.

What is it they add?

If you go to their website...it shows 2 sheets to download. They apparently require both sheets be filled out and submitted. Only the first one..application...can legally be required.

I see what you mean.
On the application:
Quote:
I authorize the sheriff, or his designee, or, in the case of first class cities, the chief or head of the police department, or his designee, to inspect only those records or documents relevant to information required for this application.
On the second sheet it expands their authority by adding this:
Quote:
I hereby authorize the Sheriff of Lancaster County, or his representative, to conduct any investigation deemed necessary and examine any pertinent documents for the purpose of establishing that my character and reputation are such that I would not act in a manner dangerous to public safety should I be granted a license to carry a concealed firearm.
Ths issue I have with that is the application page purposely limits their authority while the 'instruction sheet' forces you to grant them additional authority in order to have your application considered. Sounds like this sheriff came from Philadelphia and likes the way they operate.
If the state intended for someone's opinion of your character and reputation to be considered, wouldn't they have made that part of the application itself?
Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll never again suggest to any DE resident to go to Lancaster for their non-resident permit.

How do these other counties cost you more money?
