Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
This huge buck was killed in Harrison City. But....carefully study said picture and provide your thoughts as to what seems to be out of place with it?
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...s0fd091a7.jpeg
Then, in this second picture, see if you can identify the tagger of said deer:

Dave
PS...I have no idea who the tagger is, but I know exactly where said deer was killed, and how.

Did he shoot his dick off? It's the only blood I see...

Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
You have sunlight? We haven't seen much lately. Looks like a pretty nice day when that was taken. When was this?
-
Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
Looks like another set of antlers on the left side of the 2nd picture nearly even with the guys elbow.
-
Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
Looks like a doe with a 'skull-cap' kit.
-
Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
Looks like it's on a lawn and not a field/woods.
That's what I noticed.
Is that who I think it is? I'll let him identify himself if he so chooses.

Exactly. It looks like a set of handle bars going across the head.

Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
#1--It's "the real deal" It's a legit buck. No doubt about that. It has been seen in the local area and pursued by many local bow hunters.
#2--The buck was killed during the latter part of bow season.
#3--"Looks like it's on a lawn and not a field/woods." EM....Such an astute observation!! This is one of the "It's to obvious...yet overlooked" items on the "list".
#4--There is still another oh so very obvious item that I know you are overlooking. It's so simple that you just don't look for it. I did the same thing.
Dave
PS...Shisno has sort of hinted at it......

eyes look like its's been dead for a minute.

If it was taken in that exact spot it was taken very close to a home or similar structure based on the shadow cast by same.

Empty Mag has already stated this. The picture was taken on the front lawn of someone's home.
Shisno has hinted at the next obvious "matter" or "item" that if you look at most photo's of bow season kills, you notice what is missing in this photo. I'll drop one of the obvious items....and that is "where's the bow or crossbow?" Most bow hunters put the "instrument of kill" in the photo. But this photo lacks that.
However, there is still one glaring matter missing. Look at the deer. What don't you see?

Ok, was it killed by an alien penis trap? For Christ sakes, tell us WTF you are talking about before i go crazy.
I didn't care much when i first read the thread but the suspense is killing me...

My point was to call attention to the PA Safety Zone of 50 yards for Bow hunters.
(a) General rule.--Except as otherwise provided in this
title or to any political subdivision, its employees or agents,
which has a valid deer control permit issued under section
2902(c) (relating to general categories of permits), it is
unlawful for any person, other than the lawful occupant, while
hunting game or wildlife, taking furbearers of any kind, or
pursuing any other privilege granted by this title, to hunt for,
take, trap, pursue, disturb or otherwise chase any game or
wildlife or to discharge, for any reason, any firearm, arrow or
other deadly weapon within or through a safety zone, or to shoot
at any game or wildlife while it is within the safety zone
without the specific advance permission of the lawful occupant
thereof.

Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
The tag isn't properly attached! It appears to be just laying there, so it can be reused. JOB#1 after the kill, AFFIX the tag to the ear.

Looks like a 'squatch ripped it's balls and dick off.

DING!...DING!...DING!....DING!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! I said "What is missing?" And what is obviously missing is an entrance or exit wound. And yes...I know...you can argue said buck was hit on the other side and the arrow never did a pass thru. True....but seriously, how many times does this happen? (I'm not going to argue or discuss this point).
But simply stated....there is no exit or entrance wound. Nor...is there included in the picture a hunter's bow or crossbow. It's rare that a bow hunter doesn't include this in the pic.

Now....here we have Sherlock Holmes on the case!!! And why do I say this? Because this is why you see no entrance or exit wound, nor a pic of a bow or crossbow.
As the "story" goes....this big boy was chasing a doe...and he crossed the road and was in fact hit by a car. But the buck kept on going. However, sometime later the buck decided he wanted to cross back over the road, and when the big buck did this...he was hit by car #2 and then turned back to the house where he dropped in the front yard and died.
So...."Enter" the cammo clad fellow in the pic. This guy calls the PGC and ask them what it cost to keep said buck....rack and all. When he found out what it would cost to keep the rack.....he just slapped his tag on it.....and said...."this is my buck."
That's my understanding from a very reliable source.

I think it is $5/point. If so that's still pricy for road kill. Depending on how busted up it is you may not get much meat but you won't know until you open him up.

It appears to be $10 per point. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/ind...es_pa_man.html So, with the deer being an 11 point, it would have cost this guy $110 to keep the rack.
I'm not sure if he is allowed to legally tag a road kill that he didn't kill. Or if he's even allowed to tag a road kill that he did kill.

Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
Back in the spring one evening I was riding my motorcycle on Boxcartown Rd in the Harrison City area and that sure looks like a buck I saw standing on the left side of the road in a field. Quite a rack on him!
-
Re: Huge Buck...What's wrong with this pic??
This buck was killed (when hit by the second car) when attempting to cross back over the road onto the property owned by the Harrison City Fire department. Where the FD has their picnic area. Apparently the buck got hit by the car, was spun and went up to the residence and died in the front yard.
It's too bad a vehicle ended it's life instead of a archery hunter. OTOH, I know from living in this area there is a good gene pool for large rack bucks. I'm sure this big guy has passed on his gene's to other doe's this year and in previous years. More to come from this area.

It looks like the same buck in the same area I almost hit in October. I was on my motorcycle on that road that runs alongside St. Barbara church to that credit union that is across from Giant Eagle, the detour while the bridge was closed. It was after dark and I had no time to react/brake.
Scared the $h!+ out of me, I was really throttling 2nd gear up that little hill at the time...

It takes more than just good genetics to grow large deer, Pa has good genetics for the most part. What Pa lacks is the hunters mindset to "let them go, let them grow". I know plenty of hunters that will shoot the first thing they see, and this is the mindset of most Pa hunters. It's obvious by the size of that deer that the potential is here, they just need to live for 4 1/2+ years, but they don't in most places.
Some guys will start out looking for a trophy but that mentality quickly fades. It is however starting to improve but still has a long way to go. From 1995-2002 I shot 4 bucks in Pa during archery and 3 were 3 1/2 and 1 was 4 1/2, all were taken in northern butler county on property that got decent hunting pressure during gun season, but not enough pressure that the bucks are starting to get through the season more often and live longer, which was not the case when I first starting hunting there. A big buck years ago was a basket racked 1 1/2 year old 8 point that field dressed at 120#'s. All 4 of my bucks were over 220#'s live weight.

I'm pretty sure....well more than pretty sure that the buck you saw near St. Barbara was a different one. Could have been the same.....but late summer under an apple tree before you get to the "Crafty Shack" my wife and I were going out to Rt 22 and I saw a massive rack buck under that apple tree. He was still in velvet and he was a freight train of a deer. Again...could have been the same buck given the distance.....But my guess was they were different. The buck near the Crafty Shack was no where near as high of a rack. Still....a shoulder mount none the less.
