Looking for info on my M1 Garande Barrel
My barrel has the following info on it:
SA. 6635448. 6 64. BU9. P M. and the imprint
The eagle with three stars over it.
I realize it is part of the sixties replacement
However I didn’t see anything on any of the
Forums regarding the other letters. New to
The group and this is my first Garande.
Thanks for any assistance.
Re: Looking for info on my M1 Garande Barrel
It is a replacement barrel made on June 1964. It was used on some of the last Garand rebuilds.
The eagle over the stars are the post war DAS proof.
The BU9 PM markings are ether lost to history or relatively unimportant. I does not increase or decrease the value of your rifle.

There is a lot of good info here. If you have slightly thick skin you can post/respond/and learn a lot here. Enjoy and welcome!
FYI, don't ever tell anyone you ever went into a Dicks sporting goods store on this site.

SA is Springfield Armory
6635448 is the D size drawing number of the barrel
6 64 is June 1964 as stated above
BU9 is the "heat" lot of the barrel steel
PM is the barrel line inspection mark

Re: Looking for info on my M1 Garande Barrel
In 1967 a small contract for M1 Replacement barrels was awarded to Winchester Arms Co. Most of those barrels were sent overseas to our Allies who were give M1 Rifles. Here is a picture of one of those Winchester Barrels that was used on a rebuild here in the states by the Military. This may have been an early DCM Purchased Winchester M1 Garand.

And there is an SR before the lot number
It is a 6 digit receiver 178xxx from CMP in 2004
The barrel looks unused. Please ignore my lack of
Of knowledge, but DCM stands for?

(IIRC) Defense Contract Management
Not to be confused with DCM - Director of Civilian Marksmanship :)

Congrats on your Garand. I noticed you said "first" They get lonely by them selves, better get another one to keep it company. The USriflecal30M1 site is pure gold for info on M1's
